Cerave Comforting Eye Makeup Remover is a new waterproof eye makeup remover that contains Hyaluronic Acid and 3 Essential Ceramides to remove makeup easily without drying out the eye area. I have to admit, I was pretty excited to give this try. I saw a well-known Tiktoker promoting it and she used it all over her face which confused the hell out of me so, just keep in mind my testing for this review was on my eyes only, not my face as the packaging says nothing about “makeup removal” just eye makeup removal.

But as I said above, I was excited to try it as I’m always trying to find that perfect eye makeup remover to replace my expensive Lancome Bi-Facil.

Cerave Comforting Eye Makeup Remover comes in a chubby little square bottle that’s 4oz in size and $10.99. I imagine once it starts reaching mass retailers like Target and Walmart the price might drop slightly to around $8.99-$9.99. But at the moment Ulta has it marked as $10.99.

Don’t buy it. Don’t buy it if it’s priced at 99 cents. Don’t take it if they are giving it away to you. Don’t do it. And don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I have a funny little feeling this is going to go viral really soon and Tiktoks and youTubers are going to start force-feeding it to us (I already saw one Tiktoker doing a sponsored promotion for it and hailing it as awesome!). Don’t fall for it. Save your $$! This stuff is garbage! It’s hot garbage engulfed in the flames of hell. I mean, I could be wrong! You might want to take a chance! Maybe it’ll work for you. BUT I DOUBT IT!

This is milky formula that I guess sort of can be called a bi-phase but really, it doesn’t actually separate the oil from the milk part of the formula so, bi-phase might be the completely wrong term to use. It’s more of cleansing milk that has that greasy consistency a bi-phase has from time to time. Since this comes with a wide mouth it tends to spill out A LOT of product which results in a good deal of waste but that isn’t even the bad part.

I have literally never tried a worst eye makeup remover. It’s awful. It basically smears makeup all over your eyes and removes none of it. I am completely serious. It just smears my mascara all around my eyes. I end up coming out of this looking like a raccoon. My mascara is smeared all over my eyes, my eyeshadow is half on and half off, and my eyeliner is giving that I rubbed my eye and I forgot I had makeup on look. This is truly the hottest of hot messes.

Not only does it smear all your eye makeup everywhere without removing it but it partially blinds you with a completely trippy cloudy film that it leaves on your eyeball. Not to mention it stings a little too. I mean, none of this hot disaster would be complete if we didn’t also get a little stinging while we’re blind and looking like a raccoon!

This is utter trash. Sorry, Cerave. I have all the love in the world for a lot of your products but Comforting Eye Makeup Remover is trash.

This one is a major skip!

Where to buy

Ulta

Cerave Comforting Eye Makeup Remover is a new milky eye makeup remover that’s 4 oz in size and priced at $10.99. This sadly did a poor job removing eye makeup. It’s a milky liquid that has the consistency of a bi-phase eye makeup remover in the fact it feels a bit greasy. I used it to remove eyeshadow, liner, and mascara but sadly, it did a very poor job and merely smeared the makeup around my eye area without actually removing it. It also left me with horribly cloudy eyes and stung a bit.

Aqua / Water / Eau, Isohexadecane, Sorbitol, Peg-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Steareth-2, Ceramide Np, Ceramide Ap, Ceramide Eop, Carbomer, Triethyl Citrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Cholesterol, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Hydroxyacetophenone, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Citric Acid, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Caprylyl Glycol, Phytosphingosine, Xanthan Gum, Benzoic Acid.

Pros

  • Absolutely nothing good to say.

Cons

  • Gave me the worst blurry/cloudy vision.
  • Stung a bit.
  • Didn’t remove makeup, smeared it all around my eye area but didn’t remove anything.
  • A bit greasy.
  • Expensive.

Don’t you wonder how some of the things that companies release ever made it past the first tester.
Or however many other testers that there are?
And, they said “This is a great addition to our product line!”

    • Isabella Muse

LOL seriously, I want in those test groups! This stuff is awful!

  • kimkats

wow – How could they even release something that bad?! did they just decide to skip any tests of it? I mean, it sounds like just water would do as well, if not better, and wouldn’t sting and blur your eyes!!

thanks for the warning Muse! I will avoid it like the plague!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL at this point yes, water would be better HAHAHAHHAHA! My pleasure!

‘Hot garbage engulfed by the flames of hell’ tell it like it is… you cite every objection I ever have for a remover. I think I started using the Purito oil formula because it didn’t feel like the third circle of hell when it got in your eyes. Balms kill. Tear out the eyeballs! Thanks for the warning. It’s a major mistake to release a wonky gross product. Lots of us believe in cosmetics DNA. If you like a product from a line, you’re likely to like others. If I tried this, I’d be off all Cerave for life.

Man this sounds awful. I have been in a weird limbo of mascara and eye make up remover since they seemed to discontinue both of my favorites (drug store brands, one of the cover girl mascaras that actually came in brown-black and then the almay gentle eye makeup remover)? I keep trying alternatives of both products and I can’t seem to find a decent budget mascara that I can cleanly remove at the end of the day. This has been a year long process idk what is wrong with me! First world problems combined with supply chain disruption woes I guess.

    • Isabella Muse

Oh I know the feeling! I just made my peace and I indulge in bi-phase when it goes on sale!

I use Clinique and Lancome eye makeup remover but I also like the one that Neutrogena makes. The other two are my favorites but the Neutrogena one is lower priced and does a great job.

    • Isabella Muse

I like the L’Oreal one in the green bottle! Not bad at all! A lot like the Lancome formula!

  • Ava Gorelick

WOW! Thanks for the warning! I use a lot of Cerave products that I love and have bought many times. I definitely would have tried it.

  • Katie Reynolds

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking about buying some! I use Mary Kay oil free eye makeup remover but it is kind of pricey. Maybe it is time to re-visit the CVS store brand remover, if I remember correctly it was better than just OK.

    Thanks again!

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! That was actually good! I forgot about that one Katie! 😀 You’re so welcome my dear!

  • Margaret

I am so sorry about the blurry vision and stinging, but OMG, you had me snorking as I read your review. I shall avoid like the plague, as advised 🙂

  • Amber

Thank you for this review! I thought I was going crazy with the hazy vision after using it. It’s awful and I’m mad that I wasted my money.
