Escada Cherry in Japan Perfume Review

I had the pleasure of being in Japan for Cherry Blossom Season many years ago and oddly, one of the weirdest things I get asked is, “What did it smell like?” One would think being surrounded by all these gorgeous, delicate flowers that you’d be engulfed in a beautiful fragrance.
But sadly, that wasn’t the case. Cherry blossoms have the faintest of scents and it’s really not a note that permeates the air. Even though it didn’t smell like much I still romanticized the moment of walking through all those beautiful trees and I’ve always wanted to somehow recapture the moment with a scent. Scent is such a powerful thing that evokes such good memories and even though the air wasn’t scented with cherry blossoms at that particular moment in my life I still somehow associate the scent of cherries and cherry blossoms with that special time in my life. I also happen to associate them with sex for some reason or another. I blame too much time in Amsterdam and Tom Ford for that!
Several fine years ago, Escada Cherry in the Air was introduced and it became somewhat of an urban legend much like the fabled Escada Fruit Punch Perfume. Cherry in the Air sold out so very quickly and like all Escada seasonal releases, it never returned. I still have a small bit of it and I’ve been holding tight and cherishing it for years now. I was hoping Paris Hilton Ruby Rush would be a curious little dupe but sadly, it didn’t turn out that way.
But Escada Cherry in Japan is about the closest thing you’ll get to Cherry in the Air and it happens to be on sale at ulta.com but only for today and tomorrow so do grab it if you want it!

I purchased a large bottle of Escada Cherry in Japan earlier this past Spring at my Ulta store when it went out of stock online. I was waiting for a bit to grab it as I thought perhaps we’d see a 20% Off coupon for the Spring but sadly, that day never came and before I could indulge the bottle I wanted (3.4 oz) sold out. I was devasted! But I was very happy to find it in the store and quickly purchased it.
I so regret it. Not because I don’t love it! I do! But because it came back in stock and it also, went on sale twice since its release a few months ago. This is highly unlike Escada Fragrances. Their seasonal releases don’t last! They tend to disappear quickly and never go on sale. I’m sort of sad I paid so much for it but nonetheless, I love it and that’s what matters most.
Cherry in Japan consists of notes of sparkling cherry accord, jasmine petals, and tonka. The original Cherry in the Air Fragrance contained black cherries and raspberries with mandarin, gardenia, vanilla, and marshmallow. Vastly different right? Well, once they dry down I actually had a hard time detecting which was which! I will say I felt like Cherry in the Air was much stronger and less fruiter! It felt a touch warmer and fluffier with a stronger touch of cherry. Whereas Cherry in Japan is much sweeter, fruiter, and juicier on the initial spray. It also has a lot of cherry during that opening but that slowly gives way to the warmth of tonka which is the dry down note. You still get that beautiful cherry but it’s mix with a touch of warmth!
My nose is not nearly sophisticated enough to notice the difference between the two fragrances when they dry down even though they both contain very different bottom notes. As I mentioned above I felt like Cherry in the Air lasted longer and had a stronger throw to it versus Cherry in Japan which wore away faster and left less of a scent trial. But both smell pretty the same at that final dry down.
All in all, both are great fragrances especially if you like sweet, fruity gourmands. Escada Cherry in Japan is the closest you’ll get to Cherry in the Air if it’s been on your hit list for a while! It is a limited edition but so far, it’s been standing strong at Ulta for a while but who knows for how long.
Currently, it is on sale which makes it a tempting pick up!
Let me know if you grab it or have it already!
