Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil Review

3 stars out of 5

Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil ($6.99) has returned with the Trader Joe’s Valentine’s Day Collection 2024 for a limited time. My guess would be that we’ll see the return of Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil for Summer 2024 but for now, you can snag a bottle or two at your local stores. As you may recall this launched originally in the Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Trio for Holiday 2023. I went out hunting for that gift set but it sold out fast. I blame Tiktok. The app makes everything and anything sell out at TJs. Kimbap has been sold out since it launched but I’m seeing a few stores on the West Coast got it back but now there’s a limit on it of two per customer. It’s wild to me that food goes viral.

Anyway, the Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Trio included a 2 oz bottle of Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil along with Brazil Nut Body Butter and Brazil Nut Fragrance Mist. I suspect for Summer 2024 we’ll see the Brazil Nut Body Oil return along with the Fragrance Mist. The new bottle is $6.99 and 4 oz and if you’re comparing that to Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Firmeza Body Oil at $52 for 3.4 oz you got yourself a steal. But these two aren’t dupes.

Well, sometimes Trader Joe’s gets it right and sometimes Trader Joe’s gets it wrong. Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil isn’t a hit but a miss for me in the fragrance department but a hit as far as moisture goes. If you compare the ingredients of the Brazil Nut Body Oil and Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Firmeza Body Oil they contain a lot of the same items. Jojoba, Sunflower, and Olive Oils as well as Squalane. But Sol de Janeiro does include even more oils like Macadamia, Coconut, and Acai. That being said both are very nice formulas. I thought Trader Joe’s was thinner than the Sol de Janeiro one but I thought both were very hydrating. Trader Joe’s formula is lovely if you don’t like body oils because it’s thin, absorbs, easily, and isn’t greasy. It’s very light and feels lovely on skin! As far as moisture goes this gets five stars but when it comes to fragrance it’s disappointing.

I’m not sure what I’m smelling but I think one of the oils is interfering with the fragrance. Everyone promises Brazil Nut is a dupe of Cheirosa ’62 and I don’t think it is. Trader Joe’s scent seems a little fainter and lacks the complexity, warmth, and strength of ’62. It smells a lot like ’62 but just misses something I can’t put my finger on. Nevertheless, it’s still a very lovely tropical scent. With this body oil I’m not getting that tropical scent. It’s there but just buried deep under a weird smell. This is going to sound weird but it sort of smells like old makeup. You ever have a lip balm, lipstick, or maybe a cream product that has been lying around for years and years and you open it up and get a weird waxy oily smell. That’s kind of what this smells like. The Brazil Nut scent we all know and love is there but on top of that is a weird waxy oil scent. This contains castor oil perhaps that’s what I’m smelling? Or one of the other oils? It just doesn’t smell right to me.

Another thing I love and hate about this is the fact it comes in a glass bottle. For $6.99, it feels rather luxurious having it in a glass bottle! It’s nice packaging plus when you finish it you can fill it with another body oil! But I’m a little scared I’ll knock it off my bathroom counter and it’ll shatter. Plus our bedroom has wood floors so, if I happen to be applying it in the bedroom the same could happen. It’s gorgeous but just be careful you aren’t as klutzy as I am and drop it.

Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil might make a return in the Summer as I mentioned above and I will repurchase it at that time as I’d like to see if the formula improves. Right now this is a hit for moisture but it’s a sad miss in the fragrance department. I just didn’t think it was scented enough and it smells sort of odd.

I hope you try it because I’d love to hear how everyone else feels about it. Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Oil is available now!

I find the Trader Joe’s Brazilian nut butter oil a bit strong. It goes on smooth and smells nice at first but then the smell is very overwhelming. It’s a strong old fashion perfume smell. It does not smell like a nut butter.

I like that the scent is light being a male I appreciate that. Also, I agree that it hydrates very well without feeling greasy.

I had hoped it would smell more like the original Brazil Nut items! But def like that it isn’t super greasy 😀
