Marilyn Miglin Joins Our Beloved Tova in the Beauty Afterlife

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Sad news broke that Marilyn Miglin has died. We literally just heard the horrible news of Tova Borgnine’s passing and now this. I’m just sitting here shaking my head asking myself now where are all the good old Vintage Hollywood perfumes going to come from? These were two incredible women in the world of beauty.

Best known for musk perfumes, Marilyn Miglin died at the age of 83 this Monday from complications of a stroke. Marilyn has a huge cult following on HSN producing a white musk fragrance called Pheromone Musk that’s simply divine! It’s a very clean, lightly soap-y, true white musk that’s the definition of vintage glam. And yes, it smells quite like Tova’s Signature Perfume but with much better silage.

Marilyn Miglin was also well known for the 1997 murder of her husband Lee Miglin who was killed by Gianni Versace killer Andrew Cunanan.

I’m a devoted fan of her Pheromone Musk and always watched her presentations on HSN which makes this news sad to deliver today.

Rest in Peace Marilyn. I hope wherever you are there are plenty of bottles of fragrance that smell pretty.

Thank you to Claudette for sharing the sad news!

KATE Crystallise Quartz Eyeshadow 17

In 2007, I started a little space on the Internet to talk about makeup. I never knew at that time how long or how far it would take me but here we are in a brave new world and it’s still going strong.

With time comes change with change comes nostalgia. I find myself more than ever before reminiscing about the makeup world. Beauty has evolved so much over the past several years! The saddest thing about all the change is brands that are long gone and wonderful people like Kevyn Aucoin, Brooklyn Fragrance Lover, Thierry Mugler that have left us and passed onto their next beauty life.

A few days ago I had a yearning to haul KATE’s Spring 2022 Collection. KATE is one of several brands under the Kanebo parent company. It’s an edgy little Japanese brand that gives off Anna Sui (talk about memories! A name I haven’t uttered in years right here!) vibes with it’s goth-y promo imagery. It used to be one of my favorite brands and a brand I actually started Musings of a Muse on. As Musings of a Muse, way back when, was all about Japanese Makeup Collections.

KATE Cream Cheek 3

My craving for KATE led me to Adam Beauty. I’ve used Adam for many years after PJ from a Touch of Blusher (another true OG in the world of Japanese beauty). Adam is temporarily closed as is the more expensive option, Ichibankao. It’s not like I can’t get KATE somewhere else should I chose. One of my dearest and closet friends, Mai, leaves in Tokyo. She’d happily get me whatever I want however, with postal restrictions and COVID it’s a little difficult right for her and smaller businesses like Ichibankao and Adam Beauty to ship items.

Adam has a smaller note about closing but Ichibankao has a more ominous wording say they are closed indefinitely.

So, for all my OGs, I share this news with a very heavy heart. I hope both return. I missed out chats about Japanese makeup but Musings of a Muse became so much more bigger and the frustration with actually have to track down Japanese beauty was too great a task for some readers. I get many frustrating emails about how reviewing makeup from Japan was a tease because items were difficult to track down, shipping was too high, etc…etc….

This meant Musings of a Muse went more mainstream and evolved into what you see it as it is today.

I still most those days when we’d squeal over “HOW CUTE!” the packaging was.

I hope your favorite brands and people in the world of makeup are still around. I hope Adam returns and Ichibankao but the way things are going with COVID it feels more and more small businesses and even larger ones are being forced out of business.

Which brands or makeup influencers or artists are you missing?

Holy House of Sillage The Batman Bow Case Lipstick Batman!

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Hello, my name is Isabella and my super power is knowing every line from the 1960’s Batman TV Series.

Growing up I had the great pleasure of watching Batman reruns on TV after school. I remember racing home everyday and sitting in front of the TV at around 4 o’clock to watch Batman and Robin fight some new awesome villain daily. I remember when I saw the Batman TV Series movie for the first time. That shark scene was the height of action packed awesomeness in my youth. Batman almost lost a leg you guys! Holy Sardine! THANK GOD THERE WAS SHARK REPELLENT BAT SPRAY AVAILABLE!

I’m pretty sure my crush on Robin was solid at this point but him climbing down to hand over the Shark Repellent Bat Spray really drove it home. I loved this man. He was going to be the father of my children one day. We were going to buy a house with a white picket fence. He was going to fight villains everyday along side Batman and come home to me after work everyday, barefoot, pregnant, and cooking him dinner on our state of the art stove.

I seriously did have this major crush on Burt Ward (pretty sure Frank Zappa wrote Boy Wonder, I Love You for me but that’s merely speculation!) He and this kid Max that was several grades ahead of me in school were my first real crushes. Burt Ward was just a vibe. He had that wholesome good boy look. He was hot. No one is going to tell me different.

In all seriousness, that was pretty much how my love affair with Batman started (and comics in general!). So yeah, throwing cash on a House of Sillage The Batman Bow Case Lipstick somehow makes logical sense in my brain today.
