Maybelline Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Lip Primer for Anyone Who Has Natural Lip Lines That Colors Falls Into

Maybelline Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Lip Primer ($7.99) is a new lip primer that can be used under lipstick or gloss to intensify color and give it a longer wear. I’ve been testing out the new MAC Oh, Sweetie Lipcolour and I can’t express enough how handy Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Lip Primer came in during my testing process. I’m a big fan of Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone Multipurpose Primer Pencil since it does such a nice job prepping lips for lipstick and gloss. But I have to admit Maybelline’s works a treat and isn’t to bad on the wallet either ($7 bucks compared to UD’s $18 price tag). It isn’t an exact dupe by any means but it does a mighty fine job prepping lips for color.
Here’s why I loved it so much.
Maybelline Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Lip Primer arrives in a slim retractable pencil that holds 0.05 oz of lip primer. The tip is a little smaller than Urban Decay Ozone but it still worked to line my lips and fill them easily.
The formula is nothing like Ozone so this isn’t a dupe for that primer in the least but it does fill a little better and created a smoother surface for lip color compared to Urban Decay’s formulas. Not everyone is going to love this texture as it is drier in consistency and did drag during application. It doesn’t have a smooth, easy glide in the least but I do think that’s part of the reason it works so well. It creates a matte finish on my lips that was quite smooth for something that felt so dry going on. I was surprised it didn’t cling to drier areas and it filled all my natural lip lines very easily.

I purposely tested the formula with products I knew would fall into my natural lip lines and it excelled at giving them a really smooth finish. For example, I struggled with a few shades of MAC Oh, Sweetie Lipcolour. Some of the shades I tested applied rather poorly and sunk into my natural lines giving my lips an aged appearance. I can’t even begin to tell you how much Lip Studio Prime It Up helped! It created a really solid base for the color to cling to and filled in those natural lines so the color didn’t sink into them. It does have a slight white cast which is very subtle but somehow, someway this actually does act to intensify color as well.
I’m quite happy I added this little guy to my collection. There are a lot of lip products I own which I really like but hate how they fall into my natural lip lines! This works to create a smooth canvas for those products while giving them a nice longer wear. I felt like my lipgloss stuck around an hour or two longer thanks to this! I wish I could have rated it higher but the drier texture and tugging during application did take points away from the overall formula for me! But I’d buy this one again because it really does work dryness aside.

It does drag during application and has a drier texture but overall, it really did create a very smooth canvas for lipstick and lipgloss to adhere to. I really felt like this not only extended to wear of my lip products but also intensified the color and gave them a longer wear.
