4 stars out of 5

If the Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette is one your wish list today is a good day to read my review because this baby is on sale for 20% off at your choice of stores! Ulta.com, Sephora.com, Nordstrom.com, are price matching the Too Faced 20% Off Friends and Family Sale (Code FAMILY20 for free shipping and 20% off your total) and to my surprise that includes Too Faced Holiday 2019 and the gorgeous Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette.

The Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette for an early launch at Sephora House of Beauty late this Summer. Those who purchased passes to the event were able to get their hands on this palette as an early preview. Later on in September Rouge Members were able to purchase it early during the Sephora Holiday 2019 Preview Event.

I got mine during the Rouge Event and paid the original price of $49 but it is on sale now for $39. I’m a little sad I didn’t get it on sale but I liked it so much I don’t find myself minding too much!

As you know the Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette is a follow up to last year’s very popular Gingerbread Eyeshadow Palette which was so popular it made a come back this Summer. And why not? The shades work for Fall and Summer in my humble opinion but honestly, not so much for the Holidays. I did a post a few weeks ago that asked the question, “Where are the Fall 2019 Makeup Collections?” Because this year, it seems like Holiday releases are more Fall than holiday. Where’s all the sparkle? The shimmer? The golds and reds we so commonly associate with the Holidays? Mr Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette is gorgeous but he deserves a place in the Fall! His yummy selection of reds, coppers, burnt oranges, and browns all remind me of the falling leaves! He is so perfect for autumn but I refuse to call him a Holiday a release.

I think the most wonderful thing about the introduction of Extra Spicy is how well it plays with the original Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette. If you have the two of them it gives you endless options to create dramatic looks for the Fall season. Of course, if you only have the one you can do that too :)! But it is nice being able to combine the shades in both to create any number od different looks.

That being said….! I do think that the Gingerbread Spice Eyeshadow Palette was the better of the two. The colors seemed more vibrant in the palette, it seemed like there were more shimmers, and the formula seemed a bit better too. I’m not saying Extra Spicy is bad but I do think Gingerbread Spice is a bit better.

The palette is housed in the same great tin that has a little Gingerbread and his girlfriend decorating the cover! The inside mirror has a boarder featuring he and his girlfriend as well! It’s just a really cute presentation! I’ve accused Too Faced of being too silly with packaging in the past but I think this palette is darling.

The price is $49 just like last year and you’ll get the same amount of eyeshadow as well which is 0.43 oz or 18 x 0.024 oz. The palette comes with a get-the-look guide featuring instructions to create four different looks. The descriptions reads that the palette smells like “fresh-baked Christmas treats” bit I only smells a very, very subtle sweet vanilla fragrance. It’s Bulk Made in the USA and it’s assembled in DR.

There are 11 matte shades here and the rest are shimmers. I believe the original had 7 or 8 mattes and the rest were shimmers. I didn’t find myself minding all the mattes because I could easily combine them with shades from the original palette! The mattes are firm and a little dry but I didn’t have any trouble applying or blending them. They do require a bit more blending a more powdery matte would but with time and patience they create great looks so long as you put in the world of blending them well. The shimmers also had a firmer texture and felt a bit drier but they also applied and blended well. All the shades had excellent pigmentation with a very bold color pay off. Some colors I struggled picking up easily with a brush but I used a sponge-tipped applicator and I was good! I do think the original palette had softer, more velvety textured eyeshadows. These are a bit drier! Not horribly so but it’s something that deserves mentioning.

I went all crazy with my looks using this palette because I just wanted to do something bold and crazy so I went nuts with shades like Extra Spicy and Hot Tamale! You can create some really bold, fun looks with this palette. I’m a lover of Fall as you know and the shades in this palette scream autumn! I love how many different fall looks I can get from it.

Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette is a gorgeous little number. The original is a bit better in quality and texture but I’d still recommend picking this bad boy up especially at the sale price that lasts until September 29th! All in all, it contains some really great, unique shades that you likely to have a hundred times over in your collection!

Where to buy

Sephora Ulta Nordstrom Too Faced

Too Faced Gingerbread Extra Spicy Eyeshadow Palette is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that launched with Too Faced Holiday 2019. It holds 18 new eyeshadow shades that are 0.024 oz each. The palette is priced at $49 and was bulk made in the USA and assembled in DR. According to marketing it has a “Christmas treat scent” but I only smell a very subtle sweet vanilla that wasn’t overpowering nor lingering. The shades in this palette are mostly made up of mattes, 11 total to be exactly with the others being shimmer shades. All the shades are firm and a bit drier than the shades that were in the original palette. This didn’t translate to poor application though as I applied and blended easily with very minimal fall out issues. All the shades were very pigmented and wore well on my drier eyes without creasing or fading.

Pros

  • Beautiful assortment of bold, vibrant, sizzling Fall shades.
  • Pigmented.
  • Lovely packaging.
  • Compliments the original palette beautifully.

Cons

  • Shadows run a bit drier but still apply and blend well.
  • Subtle sweet vanilla scent might be an issue for sensitive users.
  • Not really a Holiday color theme if you wanted something festive for the Holidays.

If you’ve already got Sweet Peach, Just Peachy Mattes and the original Gingerbread palette, I don’t think this one brings anything new to the party. Also, “Extra Spicy” makes me think of Popeyes Fried Chicken!

I feel like it’s a bit different than both! I must be alone thinking this ;-D

I’ve been reading online comments saying the extra spicy palette has just peachy mattes palette vibes in it? Is that so? What do you think of that? I’d like to buy but if the colour scheme is very similar to just peachy mattes I’d probably give it a pass this time..
But that’s one lovely palette… Hard to resists.

vibes yes but I don’t think the shades are dupes! I have both palettes but gingerbread seems much more warmer in comparsion!

I’m still considering this. I can’t wear oranges or orangey-yellows on my eyes, but peaches are no problem (I adore the Sweet Peach palette). I see several shades that push my buttons, but the browns seem awfully red to me. Basically, I don’t NEED it (I’m retired and only wear makeup once or twice a week, when I go out), and I’m not sure if I want it.
