Covergirl Summer 2020 I Like It But I Don’t Really Like It

Covergirl Summer 2020 launched and I like it but I don’t really like it. Meh….! It seems a standard, permanent line of products that I don’t really need. Covergirl’s been surprising me lately! They did those interesting Her Majesty Eyeshadow Palettes that were all Game of Thrones-like several months ago. Plus remember the cool Peach and Chocolate Trunaked Eyeshadow Palettes? It just seems they were on track creating some very cool makeup lately.

But Summer 2020 sort of rolled things back. There’s a lot less fun here. It feels like they are just extending their permanent collection with a few new items. That isn’t always a bad thing by any means but well, ya know, it’s Summer and you expect something cute and quirky for the warmer weather. They have an interesting new TruBlend So Flushed High Pigment Blush available. It’s only available in a few shades but the loud, bold Hot & Frenzy shade did catch my eye! There’s also a new Exhibitionist Luminati Lid Paint which is a cream eyeshadow that kind of resembles the old MAC Paints.

A couple of the products seem very similar to ELF, but more expensive. The eye palettes and the blush in particular. I bought a few of those mini ELF eye quads for $3. Overall, I’m with you, nothing exciting. Lots of lash and brow growth products have been coming out lately, but I’m too forgetful to use regularly.

The only thing that beckons to me are those eye paints. I LOVED the ones from MAC although I wished they used a plastic tube like these.

    • Isabella Muse

They had me too but the color range is sort of meh! I wish they had a better color range in those as I could see myself buying some!

I’m shocked at the $11 eyeshadow quad price after getting the $3 elf ones. That price is almost as much as many of the colourpop 9 pans and I KNOW those are great quality. I’ve had lots of good blushes too for cheaper. I just don’t know why I’d buy Covergirl anymore!

drugstore prices fail to shock me anymore! they just keep going up and up and up!

I know that there is absolutely nothing original about an eyeshadow quad with square pans, in a simple rectangular package… … … But do those look a lot like the e.l.f. bite size eyeshadows to anyone else?

Back in the day, e.l.f. was turning out a lot of supposed dupes. For example, their blush/bronze duo that was a dupe for NARS’s classic Orgasm/Laguna duo. To their credit, e.l.f. has evolved and done a ton of their own, original concepts over the years. But they also put out a ton of dupes.

So if these Covergirl quads are in fact influenced by the success of the e.l.f. Bite Size eyeshadows, it’s amusing to see it come full-circle. A massive, mainstream brand being influenced by a brand that essentially made its name selling products that could dupe luxury items, on-the-cheap.

They do quite a few mentioned it in the comments below 🙂 They did indeed! A lot of their items are based off bestselling products from other brands. They def do a Makeup Revolution type deal with their launches! True! There’s some irony in that isn’t there? 😀

I bought a couple of the lid paints and I’m really liking them. A basic wash of shimmer and mascara is pretty much the norm right now and they have a nice smooth texture.

    • Isabella Muse

Nice! I wish the color range was a bit better! 🙁 but they look lovely!

  • Randi Macdonald

I saw those lid paints in store and they are TINY!!

  • Jane

Um, yeah, move out of my way!!! I see cool taupe eyeshadows!!!

(Also the blush of doom, the cream eyeshadow pigments, and the bronzer – although I did just buy a new bronzer from Dollar General’s house brand and I love it, its so perfect for pale ladies!).

Sorry for shoving you. We’ve just had so many years of so many warm eyeshadows that I cant wear!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL no worries ;-D glad to see someone excited about this collection!

    • Sabrina

Cool taupe eyeshadows are my absolute #1. I know I won’t be able to resist when I see them.

It’s a small thing but I want to give Covergirl props for the 24% claim on the serum. That seems like a reasonable, totally plausible number. So many brands are like “234% Growth!”

  • Holly Murphy

I’m actually really excited about the cream eyeshadow. They had something similar under the Outlast line a few years ago, and they were really good. I hope these are just as good as the old ones!

  • Agona

Quads are making a come back, I see! The packaging seems a little retro though. I’m curious but not enough to buy.
