5 stars out of 5

Maybelline Lifter Gloss Candy Drop Gloss ($7.98) is a five-shade launch of five candy-inspired shades for Summer 2023. The original Lifter Gloss launched with the Maybelline Summer 2020 Collection during a time we all weren’t really caring about lipgloss since masks were firmly in place and COVID was ruling our world. But even back then I ended up grabbing a few shades and ended up falling quite in love with them!

Since that original launch of eight shades a few new shades have launched here and there and we’ll see five fun, vibrant shades with the Candy Drop Lipgloss Collection. I believe the shades are permanent but I can’t confirm that and will update as soon as I can but I do know the Bronzed Collection shades became permanent so I imagine these will too!

I said it before and I’ll say it again. GREAT JOB, Maybelline! This formula is great. Good packaging, not a bad price, and most importantly, a great formula.

Maybelline Candy Drop Lifter Gloss arrives in the same square barrel with a nude cap that the original one does. I sort of wish they had changed up the packaging to compliment the candy theme. It’s a nice barrel with some weight and it holds 0.18 oz of gloss with an extra large applicator that saturates well with the gloss. It has the look and feel of Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer.

This formula is light with a gel-like consistency and a very pleasant vanilla flavor. The formula feels more gel-like with these new shades and it lacks the caramel vanilla flavor the original had! This flavor is more sweet vanilla. These apply beautifully just like the original with a high-shine finish that isn’t tacky nor sticky and looks incredibly shiny. I find these so comfortable to wear! This formula relies on Hyaluronic Acid to produce a plumping effect. I wouldn’t say my lips looked any fuller when using it but the Hyaluronic Acid does seem to draw moisture to lips when wearing this as I felt like from start to finish my lips felt very nicely hydrated. They do wear a shorter time at around three hours before needing a touch up but they do not migrate nor feather through that time.

Maybelline Candy Drop Lifter Lipgloss Swatches (Sweetheart and Bubblegum)

Maybelline Candy Drop Lifter Lipgloss in Sweetheart

The Candy Drop shades are quite fun and vibrant! Seems like everyone is going with vibrant, neon-like shades for Summer 2023 just look at the L’Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Soft Matte Blushes that just dropped. I picked up two of the five shades. I got Bubble Gum which is a vibrant neon pink and Sweetheart which is a vibrant neon orange. They actually look a lot the same on my lips. I thought Bubble Gum you could see the tint to it but Sweetheart kind of looked the same. They aren’t as pigmented as you would think but they still give lips a nice hint of color.

Maybelline Candy Drop Lifter Lipgloss is super fun. I’m happy to see Maybelline adding to the shade range as this is a fantastic lipgloss formula that everyone should try out!

Thair are two formulas in the Maybelline lifter gloss line. one has shimmer the other is more cream with no shimmer mica. It’s my favorite gloss of any price point. I have two shimmer and five of the more cream like versions. they fill in my lip lines leaving my lips looking more full without mint or heat with a nice light vanilla sent that dosent linger.

I love these glosses so much. I completely agree with Ivy, my favorite gloss of any price point. And I’ve tried many. Excited to see they came out with more colors. I already have about 9, a mix of shimmers and creams. Not a fan of mint or anything that stings my lips. I don’t mind the scent/taste of these at all. So many lip products are irritating to me and make my lips react badly. I haven’t had a reaction to this lip gloss at all. Infact I find them to be very moisturizing from start to finish. I’ve been hoping for awhile now that they’d do more colors. I haven’t loved a gloss this much since the old Revlon gloss in the square tube or the old square Milani glosses. Both big in the the early 2000’s. These Maybelline Lifter lip glosses are better than both of those oldies combined. And it’s a bonus that I don’t have to worry about melting in the heat if I leave one in my vehicle by accident. They don’t completely freeze but the texture does change some in exteme cold. They thaw back out to normal okay but I wouldn’t push that too much. Ive lost some good lippies to forgetfulness and extreme weather.

Any idea when these colors might be on sale at Ulta or Target?

    • Isabella Muse

Hopefully June-ish! I don’t think they are a Walmart exclusive!

You’re right, Muse! I just ordered them from Ulta today. 🙂

They’re very nice! Gummy Bear is pale pink — kind of like their Opal shade but without the shimmer.
