Betcha Didn’t Know These Makeup Brands Are Still In Business

It’s been wild west in the beauty world lately and we lost a lot of amazing brands in the last few years. Becca, Clarisonic, Bite Beauty, Makeup Geek, and so many more are long gone. Whether it was from the pandemic, supply issues due to the pandemic, or just because these brands weren’t selling as well as they once did it’s still sad thinking of them being gone forever.

Oddly, some of these are brands I’d never imagine would be gone. Like Clarisonic, it seemed like such a stable in everyone’s beauty routine! I never thought they’d be one to go under and I do think it came as a surprise then they suddenly said, “kbyethanks!” But here we are and we are no longer scrubbing our faces clean with a rotating brush.

What’s even more mysterious is how some brands that you’d never imagine would still be around are in fact still very much afloat. Here’s three you might have have thought about for a very long time which are still very much around!

Amazing CosmeticsWho remembers when we were all enamored with Amazing Cosmetics Concealer? This was pre-Tarte Shape Tape and we had never seen such a pigmented concealer ever. Looking back, it wasn’t very pigmented but at the time it seemed ground breaking. Well, if you loved the concealer I can put your heart at ease and tell you that it is still very much around and available!

Duwop
Can I tell you the chokehold that Lip Venom had on me in the early 2000s? Every time they released some new version I was purchasing it right away! Remember the blood red Twilight one they did? Or how about the Pirates of the Caribbean collaboration?

Lola Cosmetics
Can we just for one second marvel that Lola Cosmetics is still in business? It really was one of the cuter brands back in the day! I remember loving the Sweetheart Powder! It was so adorable. Remember the foundation jar (see below)?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Great post! I am shooketh that Duwop has managed to hang on all these years. Very much a 2005 vibe there.

I kinda sorta can’t believe that Stila is still hanging around. And on the drugstore front — Almay.

    • Isabella Muse

True on Stila! Stila really had some tough times but they are still here. Almay yes! And Covergirl sort of too!

As a former Regional Account Manager for DuWop (yes during the 2005-2006 era, as your previous reader stated, lol) I have mixed feelings. While I’m happy to see them still up and running, it is disappointing that their innovative products, often first to market, did not truly grow their business. The clear lip liner barrier pencil, the colored Smokey eye kit. We even had the tagline “What’s missing from your makeup bag”!
I hope that the newer generation takes an interest in the lip plumper originator, as a recent conversation with a bright 22 yo that works at Ulta for a couple years had never heard of them.

OMG I love this Julie! Haha! That was when the brand was at the height of its popularity! I agree. I am so happy they are around but there truly was never any growth. Their collection is the same it was back in 2005. Nothing changed. Dontcha just cringe and feel old when people don’t remember certain brands? I mentioned the Napoleon Perdis to a friend, she’s about 5 years younger than me, and she had no idea what I was talking about! Didn’t even know about his Target Collection!

Hey, Muse! One brand that you used to review years ago that I always wanted to purchase from was Dianne Brill- the packaging on those products you bought were beautiful and you always liked the items. It’s a shame they’re no longer around.

I haven’t had the chance to view your blog in a while, and I’m so very happy to learn you’re still posting. I will make sure I visit more often. Hope things are well in the northern part of the U.S. where you are (and that the air is okay in your area…I know there have been problems this season with the Canadian wildfires messing with the air quality in many places)– down here in Texas things are already starting to get super hot!!

oh my god. the perfume! Remember the perfume? I loved that line! It’s so sad it isn’t around anymore. I am very much still here thank you for being such a long time friend! 🙂 I appreciate it greatly! It was a crazy breathing weather for a few days but all clear now thanks for worrying/asking 🙂 Sadly, no real heat in New York yet. It’s been abnormally cooler especially in the evenings! Send some of that heat over here hehe! Thanks! I’d love to see you around more often 😀
