Trader Joe’s Shimmering Candy Cane Body Butter ($5.99) is a new, limited-edition body cream scented like a delicious candy cane. As you know Trader Joe’s always does some sort of fun seasonal body butter (and sometimes a hand cream as well!) and this year we have a fun, festive Holiday scented one.

The news broke on Tuesday that Trader Joe’s Shimmering Candy Cane Body Butter launched on the West Coast and I knew it would pop up here in New York at least by Thursday! Well, I was wrong! It got here sooner! Stores around here got it yesterday and it appears to be selling fast. My store had about 20-30 jars on the shelf. I didn’t ask if they would be getting more. I do know the new Trader Joe’s Brazil Nut Body Trio sold out by the time I got to my local store. Sadly, Trader Joe’s LE anything (even food) just sells out in a flash lately thanks to Tiktok! Every single thing that’s LE ends up being incredibly hard to get my hands on lately. As soon as it hits Tiktok and people start saying you NEED THIS YOU NEED THIS! That’s the end of it. Lucky enough, I managed to score the Shimmering Candy Cane Body Butter as well as the new Hot Cocoa Whipped Body Scrub.

This comes housed in a double-lid jar that’s 8 oz in size and $5.99. In the jar, it smells like crushed-up candy canes! I was so excited when I smelled it. Sadly, it didn’t quite translate well on my skin. It smells minty and fresh at first but as I rub it into my skin it has an odd undernote that I can’t identify. It takes away from that initial fun candy cane mint. I can’t even tell you what it is I’m smelling with the mint! It’s not horrible or unpleasant but it spoils the fragrance a little for me. Maybe it’s vanilla? If it is, it just isn’t working here!

The formula is also a little disappointing. I’ve tried their body butter before and have had the legendary Brazil Nut Body Butter as well as the Pumpkin one in my stash every year when the season comes around. This formula isn’t like those. This is a good deal thicker, there’s a hell of a lot of massaging to get it absorbed, and it feels a LITTLE waxy. The waxiness does disappear but if you avoid body betters because you dislike how they feel on your skin this might not be the formula for you! It’s very rich, very heavy, and very moisturizing but does let itself be well known that it’s on your skin. It’s not greasy but it is a little waxy and tacky feeling.

For those concerned about the shimmer I think you’ll be fine. I personally love shimmering anything in my makeup but don’t love it in my body care. I’m happy to say this leaves a very fine, silver shimmer on the skin. I think you’d have to stare really closely at someone to notice it. It’s not too overwhelmingly sparkly.

Sadly, Trader Joe’s Shimmering Candy Cane Body Butter wasn’t really my thing. I prefer the Tree Hut Candy Cane Shea Whipped Body Butter to be honest. The texture and scent are a good deal better than this one.

Trader Joe’s Shimmering Candy Cane Body Butter is available now in stores.

I stopped by Trader Joe’s after reading your post yesterday. I picked up a Candy Cane body butter and plan to open it today. I can’t wait to try it and I think it will pair well with my Philosophy Candy Cane wash. Seems like this year everyone from TJ’s to Dove have upped their body care products this year. I’ve loved it! Thanks for keeping us updated on all these new options.

I felt the same way about the TJ candy cane body butter! Like why is it so hard to rub in! None of the other ones I’ve tried have been so hard to rub in.
