Here we are my dear, dear friends! Christmas is a few short days away and the New Year is looming. This is a good time to reflect on your life and ask that age old question that Lennon put forward to us in 1972, “So this is Christmas and what have you done…” I live my life by that sentiment all year long as well as Wheaton’s Law, “Don’t be a d*ck!” because it applies to real life as much as it does the gaming life.
Unfortunately, we have become a society that depends rather heavily on Internet and we live part of life in this virtual world (a large part of it). And let’s be honest, it also seems to give few choice people the liberty to be quite nasty, mean, and downright awful. Don’t be that person (Not that ANY of you are! You’re all wonderful!). This extends to the real world too though…I can count on my ten fingers the amount of times that a stranger wished me a Happy Holiday or a Merry Christmas. For example, when checking out at a store…! I never fail to wish the person at the Starbucks drive thru a Happy Holiday or the girl checking me out at Walgreens a very Happy Holiday season. It’s rare I hear it first and most times I don’t hear it at all. New York…..! I guess we’re just too busy or grumpy to go there.
So, maybe, we have to take some Buddy-isms into account here and go the extra mile that everyone doesn’t. What was it he said? “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” Don’t go out there and start singing…! I’d never embarrass you like that 😉 But try to spread a little Christmas cheer by wishing a stranger a Happy Holiday or smiling at that grumpy guy preparing your burrito bowl at Chipotle. Who knows? Maybe it’ll make them feel a little bit better about life, the universe, and everything.
“It’s Christmas Eve. It’s the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we smile a little easier, we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year we are the people that we always hoped we would be.”
Please be that person every day of the year.
Be nice. Always. Especially around this time of the year. I’m not asking anyone to save the world but do your part to make it a nicer place to live in. Which I know you’re already out there doing as you’ve proven to me time and time again what wonderful people you are through your kind comments and conversations I have with you daily.
Thank you for spending your time with me. Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for spreading your cheer around here. Every single one of you has touched my life in ways I can’t explain.
Happy Holidays!
