CVS Sued For Misuse of Donations

A recent tweet alleges that CVS is being sued for misuse of donations. I realize this isn’t beauty but I think a lot of places we shop including drugstores contain makeup and beauty essentials and are notorious for asking for donations for various organizations and if you’re anything at all like me you might feel a sense of guilty saying, “No thank you, I don’t want to donate at this time!” There isn’t a single place I can go that isn’t asking me for money. TJMaxx, Marshall’s, Home Goods, CVS, etc….”Do you want to donate to this? Do you want to round off your purchase for a donation?” It’s tough for me as I always feel judged when I say no, thanks. And likely the reason I am saying no is that I already donated to all these organizations in different stores a few days before because I can never just say no. I’m pretty particular about organizations I donate to as I like to do proper research before I actually donate. Still, my downfall is going to TJMaxx and being asked for money and saying yeah, yeah sure go ahead and round it off or go ahead and take three dollars. Plus Sales associates are aggressive and cutthroat regarding donations and force-feeding a credit card application on you.

But both you and I might want to rethink donations after reading this post. Allegedly in May, a New York resident filed a class-action complaint, accusing CVS of deceptive fundraising in a campaign it held for the American Diabetes Association. According to reports the plaintiff says, CVS did not forward donations to the diabetes association but applied the donations toward a legally binding $10 million obligation CVS made to the diabetes association. This November, a lawyer for CVS filed a motion to dismiss the case.

A tweet by @emmavaninwegen states that the donations have never been forwarded and instead reimburse CVS for a legally binding obligation of $10M that was promised earlier. I think most of us realize bigger corporations asking us for money to donate is already a little shady but if you’re like me you may feel a bit of guilt saying no to such a donation. There are also times you’re sort of bullied into it by sales reps who can be very, very pushy. Hearing this today sort of reminded me of the fact that the organizations I do support with my donations are way better than anything CVS or any other bigger corporation is doing.

As more information becomes available about the case I’ll post it.

What do you think of this? It actually comes as no surprise to me. I think we all realize there’s a good deal of shadiness involved with corps that collect donations!

Do share!

J Cat Sweet Tooth Shadow Palette Bar Got Me Excited

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

J Cat Sweet Tooth 9 Shadow Palette Bar is a new selection of four different 9-pan eyeshadow palettes that launched recently on the brand’s website. Each palette is inspired by a treat like Peanut Butter, Berries, and even Toffee!

I have to admit I fail to get excited about eyeshadow palettes anymore. I just can’t rave up the excitement I once had when a new eyeshadow palette launched as I’m pretty sure I have every single shade of eyeshadow known to woman and man at this point. I was actually thinking to myself a few days ago how much I’d love to see seasonal color stories return. You know, those beautiful seasonal releases that had a single eyeshadow or two, some blush, lipgloss, lipstick, and perhaps a nail polish. It was just the right amount of makeup you’d need for that particular season. Nowadays we’re bombarded with hundreds of eyeshadow shades all packed into one compact palette. Out of all makeup, I think eyeshadow is one of the biggest selling points for many brands! Brands like Too Faced and Urban Decay rarely focus on core pieces of their collection like launching new blushes or eyeliners but instead serve up fresh, new eyeshadow palettes every minute of everyday. Likewise for Tarte! I feel like Amazonian Clay Blush is a long overdue revamp in the formula, shades, and even finishes (how about a few more shimmers and glow finishes in that blush collection!?). But nope, Tarte just keeps serving up eyeshadow palette after the eyeshadow palette.

E.L.F. Power Grip Primer Now Has Niacinamide

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

E.L.F. Power Grip Primer + 4% Niacinamide is the latest formulation of the brand’s popular gripping primer. As you may know, I’m a big fan of E.L.F. Jelly Pop Dew Primer since it reminds me of my beloved J. One Jelly Pack. Both of these items are long since gone and I replaced them with Dermablend Insta-Grip Jelly Primer 3-in-1 Multi-Tasking Primer which I absolutely adore.

E.L.F. Mint Melt Cooling Face Primer came after all this and at the time I really liked it but gotta admit I always felt the Jelly Pop formula was just a smidge more tackier but none the less, I still liked it. Later on, it was discontinued and apparently reintroduced as E.L.F. Power Grip as the two formulas have many of the same ingredients.

And now we come to niacinamide! What is niacinamide and why is it in E.L.F. Power Grip now? Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. Niacinamide reduces redness that may be caused by eczema, acne, and other inflammatory skin conditions. Plus it helps minimize pores to give skin a smooth appearance. It also acts to brighten. Used alone or together with Vitamin C it actually creates a smoother, brighter, clearer complexion. Do you need 4% in your makeup primer? Sure, why not. Most of use primer daily and it’s a product that remains on our skin for a good 8 to 12 hours. Why not have it act as a skincare as well as a product to extend the use of our makeup. Apparently, E.L.F.’s formula contains 4% niacinamide in the same gel formula as the original Power Grip that has a sticky texture that allows it to grip makeup and ensures it lasts longer.

You know what the best part is? The price remains the same as the original at $10! Not to shabby that you’re getting some good for your skin ingredients at the same price as the original!

E.L.F. Power Grip Primer + 4% Niacinamide is available now for Loyalty Members on E.L.F.’s website (It’s free to join their Loyalty Program).

Will you be trying it? I know I will be!

Sephora The Gifts for All Event Gets Everyone 20% Off

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the Sephora the Gifts for All Event this week! The Sephora the Gifts for All Event is a 20% Off your entire order sale! Use code GETGIFTING to enjoy 20% off your total at sephora.com! The code is single-use and can be used by all reward members! If you don’t have one already sign up for a free Rewards account to be able to use the code when it goes live.

The code will be active from Friday, December 2nd through the following weekend! It ends on Sunday, November 11th. This is a huge offering for Sephora, making me wonder what’s going on with their sales and how they are doing. There’s a lot of competition out there currently which means Sephora has to adapt and make things more enticing for you to shop. This is definitely enticing as they never offer BI Members such a generous discount. Of course, doing this is at the risk of pissing off Rouge Members who already feel a little let down by the lack of rewards!

As always, they also include 30% off your entire Sephora Collection order. This includes gift sets and Favorite Sets which makes for a great time to haul some gifts!

Will you be indulging in the upcoming Sephora 20% Off sale?

What’s on your wish list?
