Physicians Formula #InstaReady Concealer Review & Swatches
Physicians Formula #InstaReady Concealer ($10.99) is a new creamy, full coverage, long wearing concealer that launched with a blending sponge for Spring 2017 in 3 shades. Dryness has always been an issue with certain Physicians Formula concealers but no doubt all of them have always offered full coverage and many I’ve used and liked in the past. This influenced my purchase heavily and also, hey, I’m a concealer junkie no secret there.
Although, I must admit I worried this would be dry. But it didn’t prevent me from purchasing this right away.
Let’s take a look at my review and swatches.
Physicians Formula #InstaReady Concealer comes housed in a tiny 0.37 oz vial what with Physicians Formula calls a “pro blending tool” but it’s just a mini sponge much like the Swisspers Mini Blending Sponges I recently featured. This packaging is a little bit of a pain and is much like the packaging from an old Lola Concealer I used to have as well as the one that Lorac Undercover Lover Concealer. I was a little surprised, since I tend to use my fingers for application, that ended up using the blending sponge a good deal. It did come in handy! I will say the pump packaging sucks. It’s difficult to squeeze down on the pump and when it does work it spurts a big glob of concealer out which I find wasteful (see my swatch below and you can see what I mean as it pumps enough out to do my entire face).
So, I loved this! I was surprised how much I loved this. I did expect pigmented but I also came into it thinking it would be dry. It’s not, it’s actually very, very creamy and lightly hydrating. The texture is extremely thick but not as emollient as products like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. This doesn’t have that tacky, emollient texture that thicker concealers tend to sport. I like the texture a lot. The creaminess blends very easily under my eyes and the sponge helps to sheer the thickness of the texture out. As I said above, the sponge came in very handy as I tend to reply on my fingers most days for concealer application and I apply it with a “knocking” (patting briskly) motion. Don’t worry, if the sponge isn’t for you, that’s fine, you can still use fingers easily enough to apply this or your favorite concealer brush. There was no tugging at all, this was fairly easy to apply as long as my drier eyes had plenty of moisture prior to application. If you’re contouring under your eyes with this, I think you’ll be quite happy as this has a nice, brightening finish. This is quite pigmented but if you want lighter coverage it does sheer out considerably. It concealed my puffiness, my finer lines, and my darker circles easily. It didn’t feel or look cakey or mask-lik due to the heavier, creamier texture but it did crease a little it on the day I forgot to set it with powder. Once applied, the coverage lasts all day without fading. It’s definitely a good 10 hour concealer. Considering I use concealer under my eyes and not so much on my face I was happy that this contains an SPF 30. There are so few concealers and eye creams that have SPF in them. I appreciate the extra protection!
Sadly, the shade range is limited to three selections. The light was too light for me but medium was a good fit but I would have loved a lighter medium shade.
Physicians Formula #InstaReady Concealer is a great pick for those who enjoy thicker, pigmented concealers like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer. If you’re used to working with concealers like this you should do great with it and I think it’ll become a fond favorite. However, if you like lighter concealers this might not be for you.
Personally, I loved it and I’m Muse Approving it. It’s quite lovely stuff.
