I guess the entire matte metallic finish is puzzling to most people myself included. How is something matte and metallic!? Either way, metallic are huge for the Summer 2017 with releases like LOreal Infallible Paints Eyeshadow Metallics, Infallible Paints Lips Metallics, Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lipcolor, and many other brands upcoming with ranges of metallic finish eyeshadows, lipsticks, and more.

Many of you already know I’m not really a massive fan of metallics as they tend to appear very frosty on my eyes and lips. It’s weird because I love them but I just don’t love the way they look on me. None the less, I had to see what Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick were all about.

Let’s peek my review below.

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick join a long line of different formulas and finishes in the Color Sensational Lipstick Collection. Loaded Bolds, Matte Nudes, Vivids, Creamy Mattes, just when you think Maybelline might just run out of finishes for the Color Sensational Collection they come up with yet another.

Apparently the matte metallic formula is supposed to give you a brush metal finish. I think I get where they are going with this and once you try Matte Metallics Lipstick you’ll visibly see the difference between a regular metallic finish and the “matte metallic” one. I like the matte metallic one. Why? Because I don’t look like Mr. Roboto with this finish. Seriously, I feel almost otherworldly when I apply metallic lipstick. It looks great in the tube but on my lips it ends up making me look like a try hard robot. Maybelline’s finish is much, much easier for me to wear as it doesn’t have that liquid metal look and has a much more subtle metallic glint. It also doesn’t look frosty on me. The finish is considerably more refined and polished compared to a regular old metallic. You’re either going to love how much more subtly metallic these are or you’re going to hate how undramatic they are. I prefer the look of these and find them much more wearable than any other metallic lipsticks I currently own. I think you can definitely see and feel how matte they are once applied. I didn’t experience dryness due to this and color applied without tugging.

All in all, I was happy with application, happy with the pigmentation, and quite pleased with the “matte metallic finish” however, I did have issues. Sadly, this formula literally creases like an eyeshadow and ends up falls into my natural lip lines easily. I mean, within an hour of wear the color literally migrates to the center of my lips and just sits there. It separates in a rather odd way. The wear time is rather short due to this problem.

You shouldn’t have to doctor a formula for it to look good but I find applying Maybelline Shine Shot Glassy Shine Lip Topcoat helps a lot at not only making these look more metallic and popping but also prevents the color from separating and migrating to the center of your lips and/or falling into your natural lip lines. I actually don’t regret the purchase in the least because clear gloss goes a long way at making these look and wear amazingly well.

However, I do think metallic fans will be disappointed if they want a liquid metal look. The formula has some quirks that aren’t forgivable unless you’re willing to work the formula and add some clear gloss to the mix and let’s not forget the awful play-doh smell and flavor to these.

As I said I don’t regret indulging in a few Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipsticks but the formula is far from perfect and you really don’t have to rush off to buy them in every single shade! Wait for a sale, indulge in one, see how it goes 🙂

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Metallics Lipstick is launching now at drugstores or get them at ulta.com and amazon.com.

Think I’ll stick with the loaded bolds. Ran out of coffee the other day, so had to wear Coffee Addiction the next day, to celebrate a full pot. Joke unto myself. That was a generally fab release.

I also think that Hot Lava looks better topped with gloss. I think I actually can see more of the shimmer particles that way! Maybe metallics are not really suited to a dry matte formula. I am actually looking for a colour like Copper Spark, but the migrating and separating is a huge no-no for me. Have a Kat von D colour like this called Gothica although it had actual fine glitter, not shimmer, and it looked beautiful… for 5 seconds. I pressed my lips together and the glitter went totally patchy, collecting in some places and totally bare in others. Not cute! Noticed it in some other shimmery lipsticks too, though not to that extent. Either way, I don’t like that trait.

Walgreens was having a BOGO, so I picked up two bright lipsticks and ended up returning them as they made my lips looks awful. For three dollars more, I can buy one MAC lipstick/lipgloss that I love!

Love that Hot Lava shade, but I will take note of your suggestion to wait for a sale….
