Almay Goddess Gloss Review & Swatches
I picked up one of the eight shades of Almay Goddess Gloss ($10) that launched with the Almay Cosmic Collection. This is a new range of lipgloss with a prismatic finish that was created to be worn alone or layered over your favorite lip color.
As you know I tend to stay away from lipglosses like this as they always look way too frosty on me. But more and more brands are embracing some sort of galaxy, outer-worldly collection for Summer (or maybe it’s more mermaids and unicorns) this year so I gave into temptation and grabbed a really, really pretty pink shade from this collection called Fairy.
In a very early launch just at the start of the New Year, Almay introduced us to their new Make Them Jelly Hi-Lite and just a few short weeks ago they did an entire collection around those highlighters which includes these new glosses as well as new holographic shades of their Shadow Squad palettes.
I actually liked this gloss a lot but I think it looks better on me with a bit of clear gloss on top as it does in fact look quite frosty on my lips. It’s not really a prismatic or duochrome finish but more of a frosty metallic finish without any color shifting.
The actually gloss formula is fairly thick but has a balm-like texture that glides easily on my lips. The finish is surprisingly smooth and didn’t cling to my drier lips. It does fall into my natural lip lines a tiny little bit but clear gloss goes a long way at really making this pop! Without the clear gloss it’s just fine as well with a wear of about four hours and absolutely no fragrance or flavor. However, with a little gloss it really adds a nice smoother element and the color becomes a bit more shimmery and pretty! It does look fairly frosty metallic on me I think but clear gloss does soften the appearance of the frost and gives it more of a sparkly metallic look!
This did surprise me and I could see myself purchasing a more shades as I actually liked the formula and thought the pigment was pretty darn great as well since the shade I choose did not apply subtle at all! It had a nice pop of opaque pigment on a single layer.
All in all, a rather fun lipgloss from Almay and very different from their normal offerings that should be a nice pick up for Summer looks!
