Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip Review and Swatches

Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip ($7.49) are a new chromatic matte metallic liquid lipstick that was launched with the Maybelline Summer 2018 Collection. I’m dunno about you but the entire matte metallic lip thing confuses the hell out of me. How can something be matte and metallic!? I know some products failed miserably in this arena so far like Revlon Ultra HD Matte Metallic Lipcolor which made my lips looked dry and aging. Ugh!

When it comes to finish I think it’s an either or situation. You simply can’t be two different finishes. It’s just not possible.

Or is it?!

Maybe just maybe Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip might have nailed the matte metallic finish thing!

Maybe just maybe Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip arrive in a rather small cream eyeshadow-like barrel. Honestly, if I saw some of these shades at my local drugstore and wasn’t reading the label I totally would have thought it was a cream shadow. The packaging is sort of small for a lipgloss and looks like a mini MAC Lipglass that you’d get in one of the Holiday sets. It is 0.17 oz in size though which is unexpected, it seems like way less.

Maybelline actually nailed this formula. It’s thin, lightweight, and totally weightless on my lips. I can’t even begin to describe how crazy lightweight this is. After applying it I felt like I wasn’t wearing anything at all on my lips. It’s just so comfortably lightweight and not noticeable in the least. I wish all liquid color wore this nicely. Especially long-wearing lip color as this does set to a long-wear matte finish but isn’t uncomfortable, tight, or drying.

The texture is a very thin slightly runny consistency that applies easily on my lips. I recommend giving the bottle a little shake prior to applying as it seems a bit watery and separated if you don’t shake it. I only purchased one shade which was Luna a dusky metallic rose and it wasn’t intense or as pigmented as I thought it would be but was still rich in color with a subtle metallic glint that was more noticeable if I added clear gloss on top of it.

I love, love this formula but I did have one issue with the shade I tried. I had problems with the color falling into my natural lip line. Once it sets, it’s pretty much bulletproof, you can eat, drink, etc and it won’t transfer. The wear was about six hours for me before I felt the need to remove it and reapply it (some sort of lip remover is needed to get it completely off) but it does fall into my natural lip lines during the initial application and that made it look a bit drier. I’d recommend trying it out with the new Maybelline Lip Studio Prime It Up Multi-Benefit Lip Primer to avoid this issue! None the less, I still felt it was one of the better long-wearing matte metallics I’ve come across. The texture is so comfortable, lightweight, and super easy to wear!

Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip did aced it with this formula. The weightless, comfortable texture is really A+ in my opinion! I just wish the color didn’t fall into my lip lines but all in all they are onto something here. They should build on this formula and create other long-wearing lip products from it as if long-wearing lipstick was this comfortable I would stop ranting about it completely!

Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip is a new matte metallic lip color available in six shades each for $7.49-$8.99 that launched with the Maybelline Summer 2018 Collection. I thought this was a wonderfully lightweight, non-drying formula that added a nice bit of color to lips with a long, strong wear. I did experience some issues with color falling into my natural lip lines but lip primer helped this issue out considerably.

Pros

  • Anyone who hates long-wearing lip color will love how weightless and comfortable this formula is.
  • No flavor or fragrance.
  • Easy, smooth application that didn’t drag or adhere to drier areas (but sadly did fall into natural lip lines).

Cons

  • Issues with color falling into natural lines which gives the finish a dry, aged look.
  • Not super pigmented.

Who

Maybelline Metallic Foil Metallic Liquid Lip is pretty ideal for anyone who hates long-wearing lip color. This will truly change your mind about the formula considering how weightless this is. It feels like you’re not wearing anything at all and doesn’t forsake a long, strong wear to do so!

You take pretty up close pix. It may have pooled in your lip lines, but it doesn’t have extra color there. That’s what counts. I wouldn’t count on the light shades looking as good.

Thank you for your review, this one sounds like a keeper! Maybelline sometimes surprises me, I have a couple of their City Mini Palettes and they are actually pretty good and buttery! I will pick up the lip primer you mentioned too, because most matte lip products really sink into my dry lips and emphasize lines. The pink is very pretty on you. 🙂

Wow that looks awesome on you! I would agree they nailed it if you didn’t do anything extra to achieve that finish. I can the metallic and it’s just enough no frost and great pigment. I’d be interested to see how the other shades applied if they have some of the golds and bronzes that have a natural metallic.
