Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick ($9.99) is a new moisturizing liquid lipstick formula available in six shades that launched a few short weeks ago. As you know I’m not a huge fan of liquid lipsticks but Burt’s formula actually leans towards a glossy liquid lipstick and that totally caught my attention. If it isn’t matte, I’m all over it as I’m quite tired of matte lipsticks. I do think there have been some good strides this year in the creation of more glossy lipstick formulas. Products like Milani Amore Shine Liquid Lip Color, L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick, NYX Slip Tease Lip Lacquer, and Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick have restored my faith that makeup brands are actually listening to us and know we don’t want more matte lipsticks (or at least I don’t)!
Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick is one of those formulas you have to doctor up a little bit to get them looking great. At $10 each they are a little expensive to doctor up. I’m definitely one of those people that wants makeup to work right out of the package. I don’t really want to bring in other items from my own collection to get them to work out you now? But in some cases, like this one, I don’t mind so much.
Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick are $9.99 each and arrive in a square barrel with an attached sponge applicator that’s 0.21 oz each. the brand promotes them as a moisturizing, long-wearing formula with a velvety, soft formula with a glossy finish that contains Apricot and Babassu Oil to keep lips hydrated.
Application is very easy with a smooth glide across my drier lips and fully opaque color on a single layer. I was very impressed with the pigmentation! These have great color pay off and the colors available are all quite flattering on my skin tone. I was quite in love with the nudes I purchased.
The texture is quite thick but feels hydrating and comfortable on my lips. As promised they do have a very nice glossy look on my lips. I did not detect any fragrance or flavor in the formula either which is a plus for anyone sensitive to fragrance. The wear time is fantastic as well at five to six hours without feathering or migration.
Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick has all the makings of an excellent formula except for one major issue. The color tends to fall into my natural lip lines making my lips look dry and cracked. Taking into consideration that I loved the formula so much I ended up applying clear gloss on top which resulted in a smooth less patchy appearance! It works perfectly this way and I had no problems as the day progressed with the color falling into my lip lines. The clear gloss smoothed things over beautifully well.
Of course, you shouldn’t haven’t to do this but I’m going to make an exception here since I really liked this formula and the beautiful shades!
Burt’s Bees Liquid Lipstick isn’t perfect but it can be with a little work.

This fragrance and flavor-free formula had a thick texture that wasn’t sticky nor tacky and felt lightly moisturizing on my lips. They apply quite beautifully and a single layer provided intense color pay off with a wear of five to six hours. Sadly, the formula did need a little doctoring with clear gloss as the color did fall into my natural lip lines giving it a cracked, dry, patchy appearance.
