Time for a review and swatches of the new Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick which is awesome. Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick is a new, moisturizing, shiny lipstick that launched for Spring 2020 in 25 shades earlier this month. Needless to say, I was excited about this launch because everyone knows how I feel about the matte lipstick trend right? DIE DAMNIT DIE!

I do so love a moisturizing lipstick especially one that has a shiny finish! Maybe this was ingrained in me early on when I tried Japanese Lipsticks for the first time or maybe I’m just one of those people that’s prone to drier lips that enjoys the slick and hydrating feel of a nicely formulated lipstick. I dunno what it is but I’ve always enjoyed lipsticks with lighter textures, hydrating formulas, and shinier finishes! I just found them easier to wear and not as soul sucking dry as matte lipsticks.

When Revlon launched Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick I did immediately wonder how they’d compare to Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick and L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick both of which launched years before Revlon decided to join the shiny lipstick realms. Maybelline and L’Oreal both have excellent formulas but if I had to choose a favorite I’d most definitely go with Revlon’s. It’s perfect.

Almost.

The packaging blows.

Ok, so, before we get to the good let’s just discuss the bad for a minute and we can move on. I was shocked and delighted that finally, FINALLY someone reviewed these and agreed with one of main woes of this lipstick. Upon visiting Revlon’s website a user left a review ranting about the exact same problem I had. You see, sometimes when I start pointing out negative points or ranting about a product I always feel like I’m the only person on the entire planet experiencing an issue. For example, when I reviewed Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink I said how it set to a rather sticky finish but virtually no one mentions this in their review! youTubers, bloggers, no one says, “HEY! This stuff is gross and sticky when it sets!” So, is it me!? Probably!

So, my issue with the Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick may not even be an issue at all for you. You might even think I’m ridiculous for mentioning the problem but I think it deserves mentioning because it happens to be one of my bigger beauty makeup peeves.

Let me start by saying nice job on the circle barrel Revlon. It’s black with gold accents and very chic! So chic in fact that I kind of got a Gucci Beauty vibe from it. Nicely done. But you guys really need to rethink the labels on these lipstick. You have completely ruined this experience for me because of the label you placed on the lipstick. I likely won’t purchase another lipstick until the labels are rectified.

What’s the problem?

Oh my god these labels create an ooey, gooey, sticky mess. They ruin the barrel completely. I tried removing the residue with some Goo Gone and even tried removing the label with a blow drier on low heat but they just leave a mess! A huge, giant effing mess. They place the label on vertically and it takes up almost the entire tube which means you’re left with a huge giant sloppy amount of residue after you’ve peeled it off. And by the way, peeling it off, that’s a really big job. I mean, is this like a security thing so no one opens the tube? Because this label was freaking so hard to get off! Oh my god! It was really sealed on there tight. I included one image of some of the mess but it’s so much worst than it appears in my images. This is a major problem for me as the barrel, which started out looking rather chic, is now just a really gross mess that’s collecting lint, hair, and anything else it comes into contact with.

Sigh.

Sorry Revlon but you need to rethink these labels especially since this is a permanent range of lipsticks.

I appreciate you wanting to prevent people from opening them but this really isn’t working out for me.

Ok, so, I said what I had to say about that and you can either agree or think I’m making a big deal outta nothing but personally, this was a real problem for me.

Anyway.

On to the wonderful formula….!

As I said above Revlon’s formula surpasses that of Maybelline and L’Oreal in terms of moisturize and shine. This lipstick has a thin texture with lightweight feel and a melt-y consistency that glides onto lips, even dry ones, beautifully. If I had to compare it to something I’d say it most reminds me of Tarte’s Sea Quench Lip Rescue Balm but not as melt-y however, I wouldn’t leave this in your makeup bag on a hot day.

Note: My photo of Nude Illuminator is blurry! Sorry! I’ll update with a new one shortly.

These wear very comfortably on my lips and feel quite hydrating but don’t provide any real moisturizing benefits! As in they aren’t going to heal chapped lips but sure do go a long way at keeping them nice and moist. They didn’t creep on me or migrate and provided a smooth, flawless finish. The shine was quite perfect so the you won’t be disappointed in a product named “Glass Shine” because that is in fact what you get, a glass-like shine. One thing that may or may not be an issue is the wear time. Unlike a heavier lipstick you won’t get a super long wear. I got about three hours of wear before the product faded away but they did manage to retain shine through that wear. They are sheerer in color or at least the shades I tried were. I wouldn’t say they slacked in pigment but the colors aren’t crazy bold! For me, I thought they had a nice MLBB finish (my lips but better). I detected no flavor nor fragrance.

All in all, Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick are my ideal lipstick! Shiny, moisturizing, and lightweight. They’ll make a great Spring/Summer lipstick and of course, do just as great in the colder weather when lips are drier or chapped. The packaging has issues due to the poorly thought out sticky label but if you can get past that this is a great lipstick formula which is on sale for $6.99 at Ulta making it a nice affordable pick!

Muse Approved.

Love this one!

Where to buy

Ulta

Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick is a new, permanent moisturizing shiny lipstick available in 25 shades that launched for Spring 2020. I was very impressed with this formula. It has no flavor nor fragrance and has a lightweight, thinner texture that glides onto lips with a melt-y consistency. The formula has the feel of Tarte’s Sea Quench Lip Rescue Balm if I had to compare it to anything. The finish has a lovely shine that lasts well into the three hour wear time. I did have major issues with the packaging as there was a difficult to remove label on the barrel that left a sticky, gooey residue behind that improved impossible to remove even with the help of Goo Gone.

Pros

  • Shiny!
  • Hydrating.
  • Lightweight.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Shorter wear.
  • Horrible sticky label that proved difficult to remove.

Who

Revlon Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipstick is an ideal pick for drier lips as this smooth, lightweight, and hydrating lip color provides gorgeous shine while keeping lips nice and moist!

I haven’t tried these yet but I appreciate hearing your thoughts.

I ended up hating the matte inks for the exact reason you mentioned. I thought I was the only person who felt that way.

    • Isabella Muse

OH MY GOD. Right? I felt like I was the only person complaining they felt all rank and sticky on my lips! These are so nice but the label on the barrel drove me up a wall and back down!

  • Dee

I will purchase because the formula sounds divine. But already hate the packaging!

    • Isabella Muse

i dunno why they did this with the label. it made me so upset! The formula and the lipstick is outstanding though!

  • kjh

Maybe adhesive remover pads would work. They are used in h/c to remove tape on skin, where lines have been inserted, etc. I bought the last 2 cans of lighter fluid…which I doubt is available any longer…at CVS, just for removing labels, etc for massive depotting. Works beautifully. Use, rinse, dry, done. Actually glad I have that extinct species. The product sounds great.

    • Isabella Muse

I tried Goo Gone but it made things even more messier. Not sure about adhesive remover pads!

  • Eraser

I’ve been a fan of Revlon for many years so I’m just waiting for these to hit my local stores. I can deal with the sticky labels – there’s a great product called Goo Gone that’s perfect for that kind of thing. Anyway, Rum Raisin is one of my all-time favorite lipstick shades so I’m very happy to see it in a different formula.

The previous & similar product they had was called Lip Butter or something like that, and it was hugely popular so it made no sense when they discontinued it. That packaging was nicer in my humble opinion.

    • Isabella Muse

I actually mentioned Goo Gone in this review sadly, didn’t work 🙁 Just made things more mess le sigh. Yeah I have several reviews of Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter but this formula isn’t like that at all! Totally different 😀 Still a shame when it was discontinued as I really loved it! and the packaging was pretty cool!

  • Jules

We have the exact same taste in lip products, so I cannot WAIT to get my hands on these little pretties!!!

  • Jen

I thought I was the only one who had that sticky residue left! Like you, I love the lipstick but that darn sticker/label blows!

  • Carol G

Did ya try acetone to remove the adhesive? I bought two of these as well and love the formula but was laughing at the crazy amount of adhesive on the label and agree that the label is overkill…

  • Cindy Wen

That sucks that the packaging is terrible. I suggest using an exacto knife or box cutter to cut the seal to open the tube. That means leaving the label on permanently, but you won’t have a sticky tube. Personally I wouldn’t buy it because of the label issue.

    • Isabella Muse

I won’t buy another one until they fix it! Great idea with the knife but jeepers it’s a shame we have to work around this!

    • Chelley

I was thinking about that as well while reading through, that perhaps cutting it with a razor knife right at the edge of the cap would be the only way to go, but then having a stupid label stuck on a pretty tube. I am too into packaging to be okay with a nightmare such as this, so like you, I won’t be buying it just for that either. Too bad because Rum Raisin looks like a fab MLLB shade…

  • Ale

Agree with you. The lipsticks are lovely, the adhesive is so annoying. If anybody figures out how to clean the mess, I’m all ears.

    • Isabella Muse

ugh yes! A few folks recommended rubbing alcohol or a bit of oil! I haven’t tried either yet but will let ya know how it goes!

  • anne

Put a drop of oil on label goo left after label is taken off, gently rub and it comes right off.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks! will try! I did this with goo gone but it turned into a mess!

  • Cynthia

Getting the sticker off sounds horrid. Before going with anything too harsh, try just some rubbing alcohol. I know Goo be Gone leaves a residue if I use it on a shiny surface before but alcohol evaporates. Worth a try.

      • Jennifer Moore

I just discovered your page solely for the purpose of trying to remove this blasted label lol. Goo gone definitely made the situation worse, I also tried olive oil and just plain soap… Going to try rubbing alcohol next. I’m at my wits end. All the while trying not to freak out that I’m leaking some of this stuff into the lipstick inside the tube. What a stupid idea Revlon!! Happy to have found your page 🙂

        • Isabella Muse

UGHHH it was so frustrating for me! Mine are STILL sticky! let me know how you do! Good Luck! and glad you found me too 🙂

  • Anonymous

Revlon is aware of the issue and is working to change the adhesive. You aren’t the only one that noticed;) And it is an amazing formula similar to YSL.

  • Emily Fussell

Try using lemon essential oil to remove that sticky mess. It always works for me.

  • AmberM

Ugh. I bought one from Ulta as well. I agree about the sticky packaging (wtf?) but also I’m disappointed in the color pay off. It’s too balm-y and not enough color. I was hopeful because I love the Rum Raisin in the other lipstick formula so I was hoping it would be similar in color. Nope. It’s a lot lighter than I was expecting.

    • Isabella Muse

They are indeed sheer! They seem to accent lips very nicely but the shades aren’t rich nor deep from what I’ve tried! the label is a nightmare ugh!

  • Susie Gilch

I called Revlon about the packaging and asked them how they expect a consumer to open this product. I like the formula, but spent so much time with 4x Goo be Gone, Orange Glo and finally vegetable oil to try to remove stickiness and glue. The vegetable oil made the tubes touchable, but still some white residue on the beautiful black and gold tubes.

    • Isabella Muse

go you! What did they say? I spent about 20 mins going at it with goo gone and a hair drier and still sticky mess!

      • Susie Gilch

She talked around it! I asked on Monday for someone there to open one and call me back and advise me how to do it. Nobody called back. Maybe I will call again. My Ulta had trouble with the stickers on their samplers of this. They agreed it was very poor packaging. I won’t buy anymore unless it is changed.

  • Sayre

Rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball will remove leftover sticker residue. I hate leftover sticker residue with a passion and this trick always works for me.

  • Tara

I find hat rubbing alcohol helps to remove gooey messes! I saw this at Walgreens, will definitely try them! Thanks for your review.

    • Isabella Muse

naaa not at all! These are sheerer, thinner, and shinier! The lip butters were creamier, a bit balmy, and had way more color 🙂 Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  • Abby

The adhesive is horrible but I’d rather that then something people can open and swatch on their hand and then put it back. I can’t tell you have many people I’ve seen at Walmart, Target, Ulta etc. open makeup swatch it. It’s absolutely disgusting

  • genevieve

Yes, I have had this kind of problem when trying to open lipsticks too – I am looking at you Maybelline! Such a nuisance and definitely a problem for those suffering from arthritis in their fingers.
I also want the matte lipstick trend to pass on as well.
As for Revlon’s lipsticks, I have found in the past that they just don’t last on me the way that Colour Pop’s Lux lipstick range does. These are pretty shades though.

  • Linda Whitener

I had the very same reaction, Muse! LOVED the lipstick, HATED the mess left behind by the stickers – and nail polish remover only made it worse. I fired off a “What were you thinking?!!!” message via Revlon’s website.

    • Isabella Muse

I was so pissed. I can’t believe this label! It locked me out of my purchase lol!

  • Stacey

Yeah I’m kinda torn on the whole label issue. On the one hand I like that it keeps people from opening them in the store, but I hate having such a nice lipstick tube covered in sticky residue. I’m glad you mentioned Goo Gone as I was thinking of trying that myself. I might just try to get more of it off by using a piece of tape to try and pull off more of the residue.

    • Isabella Muse

Agreed! I like people can’t open it but hate the packaged is ruined 🙁

  • Cathy C.

Hi Isabella! I just love you and your blog!! It’s the first thing I read every morning and starts my day off with happy vibes. I bought the exact same shades of this lipstick as you and had the same experience trying to peel off those darn labels and remove the adhesive. But instead of goo-gone, I used ” Pdi Inc. Adhesive Tape Remover Pad ” which I bought from Amazon. They eventually did the trick after using 2 pads per lipstick!

    • Isabella Muse

hi Cathy! Thank you so much for leaving this comment it totally made my day 🙂 I’m glad I am able to provide you your first bit of happiness in the morning ;-D Thanks! I’ll try that out!!!!!!! I never heard of it but will check Amazon! I’m so disappointed how much of a mess the tubes are : (

  • Carolyn

Can’t you just leave the label on and cut around the crease to open and close it. I wouldn’t do it on a high end lipstick with a beautiful case but not a cheap Revlon lipstick where packaging doesn’t really matter

    • Isabella Muse

I honestly did try to do that! Might be a better option than dealing with sticky gooey residue!

  • Wende

This product is great! Long lasting moisture and great color. Yes the packaging left a sticky film on it. Got the mauve and love it!

  • Geri C.

I just purchased 2 Revlon Glass Shines at Ulta yesterday. I agree that it certainly is tamper proof. I had a hard time removing the seal which left the barrel sticky but rubbing alcohol and a paper towel removed the gunk nicely. Really nice shine and a dup for Lancome L’Absolu Mademoiselle Shine$30.00. You can’t go wrong.

  • Sunshine

Quick tip- take scotch tape or really sticky tape and put it on the tube where the label was and peel off.. the stickiness comes off the tube. Keep doing it till it all goes away

  • GigiAZ

I love this lipstick!! It’s extremely hydrating. Use a bit of isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on a washcloth or cotton ball to gently remove the glue residue off the case. It works fast & is perfect!! Don’t use acetone!

  • beautylover

Hey – sunscreen cream can help to remove the gooey residue.

  • Jenni

Rum Raisin looks like a dupe for Mac Mystical if you ask me

  • Jay

Haha! Loved your review! I agree on the whole matte liquid lipstick trend, I’m so sick of it. It’s drying, sticky, weird, and crusty. I don’t mind reapplying lipstick so maybe there’s that. I love your honesty on the new lustrous lip, I’ve been considering them and now I might go get Nude Illuminator! Have you ever tried the Japanese brand Canmake and their lip colors? Would love to see your review!

  • Kim

Matte lipstick is from The Devil. Revlon is always good, and the sticky label thing aside, I know I’m going to try this.

Nude Illuminator looks pinky in the tube, and on your lips, but on your arm, it looks a lot more orangey. And I just can’t handle orangeyness. I have red hair, brown eyes, and fair-neutral skin, and things that aren’t neutral or pink/mauveish just look bleah on me.

Did you get any orange at all from it? Like, outside your lighting set up for your photo? Or after it was on the lips awhile? Thanks, Isabella

  • Taryn

Hi Isabella! Thanks for taking the time to review and share your experiences…I enjoy your content! I agree with what you said about the stickers…they leave a horrid residue which is so hard to remove…unless you have the magic oil that originated from Down Under ‘Eucalyptus Oil’! You should be able to get it at any health store and even some grocery stores, definitely online too…you just need a few drops on a paper towel or similar, wipe it a few times over the sticky area and voila! Totally natural and doesn’t harm the packaging surface etc. It’s also good for using to remove anything sticky…chewing gum email etc. As well as adding to an oil burner, cleaning products etc. Let me know how you go! x
