What’s One Discontinued Makeup Product You’d Bring Back?

Was your favorite foundation discontinued? Or maybe it was a favorite blush shade that’s long gone. What’s one discontinued makeup product you’d bring back if you could? I always have hopes that brands will revise old, discontinued makeup that I used years and years ago. I still recall a Revlon Blush I wore in my graduation photo. It was called Rose Berry. It’s long since gone but I really loved that shade and used it all through my Senior Year of high school. 17, bushy eyebrows, frizzy hair, and you can’t tell in this picture but I was wearing Rose Berry on my cheeks! What a time to be alive!

Would I love to see that shade back? Absolutely but not as much as I would like to see something else return. If you’re an OG reader around here I bet you know which discontinued makeup item I want back and it isn’t a blush shade. Did you guess?

If you said Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer you’d be correct! I KNOW I’m not alone with this one. Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer was released in 2009 and I guess it was around for about a year or so. If I knew it would be gone so soon, I’d probably have purchased a lot more of it than I did. I’m enraged that the crappy Maybelline Dream Mousse Foundation is still around but the concealer is still around. NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer and Too Faced Peach Perfect Instant Coverage Concealer are similar formulas but not as soft or as dreamy as Maybelline’s formula.

Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer 2

At one point in my life, I really thought I liked Maybelline Dream Mousse Foundation. But I realized it just isn’t meant for my skin type at all! But the concealer, the concealer was a whole other ball game. As you may suspect the formula is exactly like the foundation. It was a soft, whipped consistency; my eyes simply loved it for some reason or another. It applied like a dream and had the smoothest, most beautiful finish under my eyes. I do wonder if it was around today if I’d feel the same about it. Why? Well, it was released nearly 15 years ago and a lots has changed with my eyes. I still have a fairly good under-eye area but I do have more finer lines I’m sure and I’m always battling puffiness but it seems more so as I get older. Also, my eyes are a lot drier than they were back then. I wonder if they brought it back if I’d still love it as much as I did those many years ago? I sure wish they would! I’d do anything to retry it and see what my eyes think of it now!

What’s the one discontinued makeup product you’d bring back?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. you look so goth-y in that photo, i love it!

i only tried the Dream Mousse blush and never had the chance to sample the foundation since i was not into foundations back then. i did like the blush though since it was fun to apply and the color payoff was nice.

some makeup items i would love to see a comeback: the Urban Decay Gash lipstick and nail polish from the 90s and the Gash lip gloss from the 2000s(?). Revlon Streetwear and all the Bonne Bell stuff from the 90s particularly Lip Lix and Lip Lites just for the nostalgia..

and a lot of perfumes and old formulations of the classics. since i am a 90s kid, i would love to own Liz Claiborne’s Vivid again. ditto for Deci Dela-i am not partial to berry notes but this Nina Ricci frag blew me away. Benetton Tribu-very odd that they scrapped this one out because it has a very distinctive scent and i am still on the lookout for a great dupe. OG Calvin Klein Escape, The Body Shop Oceanus. Gucci Envy (i am hanging on to my 100ml EDT flanker and only use it on very special occasions). Bath and Body Works’ Coconut Lime Verbena and Velvet Tuberose. i could go on and on…

Alessandra Ambrosio also released a line of fragrance mists for VS more than a decade ago if i recall and i sorely miss them!

    • Isabella Muse

haha not really but thanks 🙂 I’ll take it! Hehe! Gosh, I’d love to see the old Bonne Bell stuff! The formula seemed way better back in the day! Oh WHOA Benetton Tribu! That one is way back! I never smelled it. Curious now! I’d love to see Avon California perfume come back! Not sure if anyone remembers that one. I gotta go google the Alessandra stuff now I don’t remember that!

BB did lip gloss and balm flavors well! Lip Lix was awesome and i thought it was way better than Maybelline’s Kissing Coolers since it had more variety and color payoff.

my apologies, it was not Alessandra’s, rather, she was the face for the VS Spring 2010 collection which includes the fragrance mists (VS Secret Moments Sheer Fragrance Mist).

    • Mary Jae

I was going to say Urban Decay Gash too!!! I haven’t found any lipstick that’s exactly the same.

      • Karen

I definitely miss the 2010’s Urban Decay lipstick shades, especially Gash, Amulet, and Bruise. I also really miss the lipstick shades Bite Beauty offered.

  • EC

My favorite discontinued product is a Revlon lip gloss called Cherries in the Glow. It was immaculate

    • Isabella Muse

Oh! I don’t remember that one! I do remember the cherries in the snow lipstick though!

    • Susan Zimmerman

Yes! A thousand times, yes. This was the most effortlessly pretty lip gloss. I miss it so much.

    • Isabella Muse

gosh yes 🙁 Very missed! I loved the Sephora Rouge shade! It was such a beautiful red!

  • Monica Arredondo

Ginger plum frost blush by Ultima11 the brand is discontinued in the U.S but I loved it it was the best

    • Isabella Muse

I never tried anything Ultima II but remember seeing some of the old ads!

      • kjh

Girl, you are a professional and I’m going to makeup history shame you. Ultima 2 birthed the Nakeds with KEVYN AUCOIN. He started that trend which will ALWAYS be with us. Fie on you, Bella! LOL.

        • Isabella Muse

haha! I really can’t recall KA and Ultima doing anything! WOW! WAY BACK machine!

    • Christina

Oh I loved their Wonderwear (had to look the name up just now – gotta love Google) cream foundation in the jar!!!!! That was my first “splurge” on high end foundation when I was in college!

  • Brooke Jones

Not a “discontinued” product but a reformulation. I really really miss the old Angel by Mugler. The new one just doesn’t have the spice or the longevity. I have a tiny bit that I hoard.

    • Isabella Muse

I have love hate relationship with Angel so I guess I have an old bottle? As I use it in really small amounts and that bottle has been around for ages. I didn’t realize they reformulated. Miss Dior has also been reformulated (believe this is our third time) and not in love with the last two formulas 🙁 I feel you!

  • Joyce

Revlon Lip Butters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They’re made for the current makeup climate too. Bring them back!!!!!

    • Isabella Muse

say it louder! Revlon needs to hear our prayers! 😀

      • FrugalCat

I knew this thread would blow up. Those lip butters were PERFECT! I still have a couple of the colors I wasn’t crazy about, so I didn’t use them up like I did, my fave, Lollipop. I was scraping that out with a lip brush. I have heard of sites that sell discontinued makeup- any ideas on some leads with that?

  • Sarah

YSL Tint-in-Oil in ‘Cherry my Cherie’! It was such a fabulous formula and the color was somehow just the perfect shade of pink for me. Definitely my all time favorite lip color.

And…the original formula Bite agave lip mask! That stuff was the GOAT!

P.S. You haven’t aged a day, muse! Beautiful then and now!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks sarah! the eyebrows were crazeee back then! lol! but thanks! I thought the reformulation was fine but as I got to the end of the tube I started to realize it wasn’t nearly as good as the old. Such a shame bite is gone 🙁

  • Lily Kelley

Isabella you look lovely in the picture. I wish MAC would bring back Luster Lipsticks (original formula) in Freckletone and Jubilee.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks lily you’re very sweet 🙂 I’d love jubilee back! it was a great nude peach on me! It’s so ad that no one really like’s the lustre formula! I always thought it was great!

  • Joy

Not makeup, but the Revlon Outrageous shampoo and conditioner, just for the smell. That was truly the fragrance that got me the most compliments, and if they had released it as a perfume I would’ve hoarded bottles of it!

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t think I ever tried it! you got me curious!

  • Jen

Clinique lucky penny eyeshadow. Still have a couple. I’ll never understand why companies discontinue top sellers.

    • Isabella Muse

same! They are obviously well loved but they just stop making them! why 🙁

      • CL

Probably due to either poor sales, or the cost of ingredients got too high.

    • razlcat

Agree! This is one of my favorites and I still have one too! It was also in one of the old “quads” with Black Honey as well. I use it sparingly and usually just on the inner corners as a highlight so it lasts!

  • Jenna

Revlon lip butter in Sugar Plum
    And
Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

  • Jamie

Thinking back to my elementary school years and really missing the Bonne Bell Flip Glosses and The Healing Garden Green Tea body spray. Memories!

  • Bo

I have a few I wish were back:

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara. It had the same big brush as Dior Show but it actually made your lashes thicker and longer.

Cover Girl Cheekers blush in Iced Cappuccino. It was the perfect nude blush.

Malibu Musk was a huge favorite in 1991!It came out before Tribe by Coty.

  • Melanie

the original naked skin foundation by Urban Decay. The Estee Lauder double wear sheer is a close match. Was my holy grail. Would like to see the double wear sheer back in stores

  • Dee

I love your high school picture! That style of senior picture is another thing I miss:) All the girls wore black sweaters and a necklace and the guys wore jackets and ties. I remember getting the year book at the end of the year and thinking “wow, how grown up everyone looks!” I know the pictures now really show the personality of each student and that’s a good thing.

Revlon had an eye- shadow quad called Coffee Bean that I LOVED. So funny, I was thinking about it the other day and here is this post by you! I still miss Clinique’s City Stick Foundation. That was all I used years ago and I miss it to this day. Their chubby stick foundation doesn’t come close to that. Another missed product is Clinique Powder Blush in Rhubarb. That shade was so easy because no matter what I was wearing, it worked. I just hate when great products go away. We can find something else that works but not like those discontinued products.

    • Isabella Muse

I hate to disappoint but we actually had our school uniforms on that day LOL! The “black dress” you’re seeing in the pic was this little collar thing they put on us to take the pic! But it still worked somehow hehe! I use to love Benefit Play Sticks so I feel your pain on Clinique’s City Stick!

  • Randi L MacDonald

The original Bite agave lip mask, before they changed the formula.

  • Susan

Physician’s Formula Cushion Compact Foundation is my long lost favorite.

  • Dawnn

I did love Maybelline Dream Mousse Concealer, but oh how I wish they would bring back Benefit Lemonade Primer & L’Oreal Volume Shocking Mascara the dual triangular shaped one . I also miss the original Physicians Formula Skin Blur before they rebranded and changed to CC & BB creams

    • Isabella Muse

I always wish and hope one day Benefit will be like, “hey, everyone loved lemonade let’s bring it back!” sigh. Hasn’t happened yet but keeping hope alive!

  • susie

Believe it or not the best ever concealer came in a tube from Wet and Wild – I called the company asking for any back stock i could purchase – lol! of course nothing! It was some celebrity line they had with Fergie (dating myself)

  • Kendall

Too faced peach perfect matte foundation or what ever it was called. It just worked with my skin. It controlled the oil, didn’t make me break out, was the best color match of my life and I was really sad when it was discontinued.

    • Isabella Muse

the peach collection really was a nice line of products! I always wondered why they diced it.

  • MA

The old CoverGirl Lip Lava lip glosses–I’m still hoarding them! Great range of colors, huge pigment load, sparkles, the works. Best lip gloss I’ve ever used.

  • Mary

Great picture of you, Muse! You’re adorable.

Not quite make-up, but I will always miss my two favorite fragrances — Fendi by Fendi for Women and the original made in France version of Replique by Raphael.

I’m in my 70’s and discovered Replique as a middle-schooler. Our luxury department store perfumed a fountain with it at their front entrance. Unbelievably, my mother gave in and purchased a bottle for me, and I wore it for years.

And to me, Fendi was the best of the 80’s in a bottle!

  • Anne

Marc Jacobs highliner in Jazzberry. Pretty shimmery raspberry purple, lasted all day long. Sephora’s Berry Sweet is close-ish, but nowhere near as long lasting.
