Hi I’m Back (Sort Of) and I Has a Sad That Joann’s Is Closing All Stores

Hi there! Remember me? Sorry, I’ve been MIA for a bit. I’ve been traveling and didn’t have time to blog. I hope everyone is doing well and hanging in there. And hopefully, you aren’t frozen wherever you are. It’s a cloudy but lovely 50 degrees in England today and my mom tells me New York is having some of the same back home. Last week we were in Sweden and they had pretty much the same crazy weather we left at home. But it was rather nice with all the ice and chilliness. But I don’t trust this first bit of Spring at all. I just know March is going to be brutal.

Did you hear Joanna’s is going out of business? I’m so sad! During the pandemic I started getting into weird crap like Diamond Art kits and places like Joann’s were my sanctuary and safe place when the world felt chaotic. Not to mention, I love going there to pick over their seasonal collections! They always have the best Halloween stuff like my massive mortuary sign that I used in my haunted hotel Halloween theme a few years ago. My boyfriend had to struggle with me to take it down when Halloween was over as I just wanted to leave it hanging in the foyer looking all spooky cool.

Like most stores lately Joann has been struggling hard and due to sluggish sales and inventory shortages they filed for bankruptcy protection for the second time in a year. But now it’s time to say goodbye sadly. Joanna’s is closing 500 of their stores which is more than half of their locations and will close the rest very shortly. Stores will immediately start offering inventory discounts starting at 20% off and up to 70% off select seasonal items.

In a statement on their website the store posted the following, “Joann leadership, our board, advisers and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business, we are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders.”

I realize this isn’t beauty but I thought I’d say anyway as we do occasional talk home goods on the blog. I was pretty sad to hear about their closing! Christmas Tree Stores, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Macy’s, more and more stores are closing. It feels like we won’t have many brick and mortar locations in the years ahead. I fear this trend will continue as online sales remain strong.

I am still not over losing A.C Moore /Ben Franklin Crafts. I got all sorts of supplies for making my own Christmas ornaments from there. Michaels and Hobby Lobby are the only national chains left. But their selection is nowhere near as good as the larger Joann or A.C. Moore. Sewists and quilters will be hit hardest as Hancock Fabrics closed years ago. So, local or online shops will have to do. I really like to see and feel yarn and fabric in person. Joann will definitely be missed.

P.S. I can’t post with my main email. The last post I was able is about Walgreens.

Melody, my heart hurts still for AC Moore it was such an amazing store. Ugh. Oh no sorry Melody. I’ll check into why! Sorry!

Well, Bezos is making enemies for Amazon.com right now, so who knows? People may realize there were good things about seeing and touching the merchandise before buying. I’ve never liked buying clothes online. And all those delivery trucks aren’t good for the environment.
I really miss mall shopping. The ones in my close area started closing many years ago – they couldn’t really blame it on anything but mismanagement. Now I have to drive for about 30 minutes to get to the closest mall, and even longer to get to the good ones with decent parking. Also, now that many more people are being forced to work at their offices all day, people might not be so willing to risk that their purchases will be stolen off their doorstep before they get home.

There is absolutely something nice about going to a store and seeing it and touching it etc…! And too true! There are trucks everywhere. I was a mall rate and I’m so sad that malls are dying. We had one close in my area as well and the one big one we do have locally might not last either. Thankfully, stolen packages aren’t an issue for us but having no way to get your stuff due to porch pirates or having to get it at a locker is such a pain :-/

I didn’t go to Joanne’s a lot but I do hate to see any store closing these days. So many are just wiped out. I miss the time when shopping was easy and it just isn’t anymore unless you do it online.
    Enjoy your travels!

Me too! It feels like nothing is left anymore. Online shopping is fantastic but going to the store and seeing something, touching it, etc is nicer. But sadly, most stores have such limited inventory you’re forced to get it online! Thank you! We’re having a blast but I miss my pup terribly lol! I wanted to bring her but it seemed to much to jump from place to place with her!

Hi Muse, good to ‘see’ you. I also hate to see Joanne’s go. It seems alot of good and worthy things are being lost or abandoned. But on a bright note, we always have makeup! Yes! My new favorite is one you might enjoy: LA Girl on Cloud Nine Bouncy Blush and Bronzer. The coral bliss blush is sooo shimmery and pretty, just like you like.
The other two shades are very pretty as well; matte. All last all day and are easy to use. A little goes a long way! The bronzer makes a nice eyeshadow.
Life will always carry on so I will put on my big girl panties and buy makeup! I wish the same for all you young ladies.

Good to see you too 😀 I really do. Michael’s and Joann’s is my happy place! I wish at least they’d stay open online! Ok, you have my attention as it was in my cart but I was like naaa doesn’t look like it has shimmer! It has shimmer? confirmed? I need it LOL! Amen sister. Life goes on, the Earth keeps spinning, and by the Gods good graces we are here for it good and bad. 🙂

Muse! Did you see the new Fenty powder blush shades with a shimmery finish? I ordered 2. Not on Sephora yet. My holy grail shimmery blush is sephora-brand blush in Heat. Rosy red with loads of shimmer. What is your all-time favorite shimmery powder blush (besides orgasm! Ha!)?

  • Jana

Muse, I don’t have any of your favorites so shopping now! Thank you. Go to Fentybeauty.com and pull up the powder blush. The new shimmer shades are there. Mine come tomorrow so I will report post-haste!
