My Love of Metallic Sparkly Eye Looks Was Inspired by Grunge, High School, and Days Gone By

I was compensated by a brand or company but all thoughts and opinions are my own and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.

Am I the only one that remembers one particular girl in high school that was perfect? She was the girl that you wanted to be just like? Popular, super pretty, smart. I had one of those girls in my life. Her name was Stacy and I swear I had a total girl crush on her. She had blonde curly hair that never showed signs of frizz and it was a mystery how she pulled that off. She was also really sweet, totally pretty, everything that everyone wants to be in high school.

I also remember the day she completely re-invented herself by dying her hair black, letting it frizz up a bit, and started wearing ripped fishnet stockings, a plaid flannel shirt, and combat boots with her school uniform much to the horror of the nuns that ran our high school. It was like watching an episode of Daria when she strolled down the school corridors. All this never changed the fact I wanted to be just like her.

It was the 90’s, Pearl Jam and the Smashing Pumpkins ruled the radio airwaves (this was when people actually listened to the radio and didn’t have Pandora pulling up their playlist of choice to stream), brown lipstick was totally a thing, and Kurt Cobain was a God (and still is).

For me it seemed a simpler time in my makeup life as I remember owning two blushes, wearing no eyeshadow, and being very natural with my look. I’d like to tell you I was as wicked cool as Stacy but I wasn’t. My grunge phase was all about the music, not the fashion or the makeup. Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Hole, Bush, were pretty much the soundtrack of my high school years.

If I had half the makeup I do now back then my grunge look would probably be something along the lines of this:

Or maybe I’d do some sort of cranberry look because that seems a popular pick back in the day!

What would yours look like (or did look like)?

Ulta 21 Days of Beauty September 2018 And a Potential 20% Off On the Way?

The date of the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty in September 2018 have been confirmed across a few different sites the last few days. Rumor has it the sale will start September 2nd and will end September 22nd which has me wondering about a Platinum and Diamond 20% Off Coupon day!

I think it’s safe to say at this point Ulta is a major player in the beauty world and a hard competition for Sephora. They’ve been collecting brands as quickly as Estee Lauder and L’Oreal lately offering beauty lovers access to MAC, NARS, and more. Not to mention they updated their rewards tier to include a new Diamond Member status as well as offering many, many incentives and sales to shop with them. I actually thought Diamond would be unattainable but I made it to Diamond earlier this year! And let’s not forget some of the exclusive and cool collections like Too Faced Tutti Fruitt an early access to many different items lately that Ulta seems to get before anyone else!

Sephora is struggling to keep up with new updates to their own reward system but most makeup junkies I speak to daily are all about the cash back rewards at Ulta.

The only thing missing from our beauty life at this point is some sort of flash shipping from Ulta and at that point we can all bow down to the greatness that Ulta Beauty has become.

For the first time ever Sephora is having a Beauty Insider Appreciation Event later this month with 20% Off for Rouge, 15% Off for VIB, and 10% Off for BI. Typically Sephora has their major discount sale closer to the Holidays but this year they just randomly dropped a percentage off for August and a lot of people, myself included were pretty shocked!

I think it’s safe to say with the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty starting so soon we’ll likely see a similar deal coming down the pipeline for Diamond and Platinum Members. I know I’m hoping for one since I have a list of skincare I want that’s a mile long!

Keep your fingers crossed!

Either way, I’m still looking forward to what the 21 days of Beauty sale has up on offer!

I’ll keep you posted as more info emerges!

Cetaphil Hydrating Eye Gel-Cream for Basic Days

I purchased this item and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post.
2 stars out of 5

Cetaphil Hydrating Eye Gel-Cream ($8) is a new eye cream formulated with Hyaluronic Acid to seal in moisture and and help to keep eyes hydrated for 24 hours. Taking into consideration Cetaphil’s stellar repetition it was absolutely a no brainer for me to purchase this without thought.

I have drier eyes with some fine lines as well as puffiness. I rely on eye cream mostly to hydrate the area so my finer lines look less obvious. I have spent a lot of money on eye creams both budget friendly and higher-end ones from brands like La Mer and in all my testing I have yet to find one that really treats dark circles, finer lines, dark circles, and puffiness. I have learned that a good hydrating eye cream is the key to eyes looking great. Hydration really helps plump up the eye area so finer lines are less prominent. And a good concealer is your best to looking younger, more wide away, and flawless without the benefits of hiding flaws such as dark circles or even puffiness.

At this point I don’t really expect a miracle from my eye cream and I’m ok with that!

I don’t think there are any miracles to be had with Cetaphil Hydrating Eye Gel-Cream either but it does contain some fairly good ingredients and should work great for basic days you need some lightweight moisture.
