Sephora Points Can Be Exchanged For Donations To National Black Justice Coalition

Sephora Reward Points can now be exchanged for donations to the National Black Justice Coalition. For the month of June, you can head over to the Sephora Rewards Bazaar and exchange 500 points into a $10 donation, 1000 points into a $20, and 1500 into a $30 one.

There’s a lot of feelings involved with this one.

Some small part of my heart it saying that I don’t use my points anyway because let’s face it Sephora Reward Points are useless. They made some weak attempt at allowing us to redeem reward points for cash but it’s $10 per transaction only. Since my points are sitting there unused why not use them for something good like donating them?

However, another part of me rebels at the idea. This feels like a really weak attempt at activism on their part. For one thing, they combined two fights into one donation. It’s like they want to address BLM and Pride Month all together. Don’t get me wrong, the National Black Justice Coalition is an amazing organization that benefits American civil rights for the LGBTQ. However, they should have chosen two charities to represent one cause.

Secondly, if you want to donate money to any organization supporting the LGBTQ or BLM movements I highly advise doing so personally and not through a second party. I do my own donations as I always do to LGBTQ organizations each year. I don’t really depend on doing those donations through “rainbow washing” product launches unless I know the brand is heavily active in the LGBTQ community plus I carefully a new organization to support as well as one I donate to always (The Trevor Project) Likewise, for any donations I made to BLM organizations. Again, some part of me is thinking, “well, I’m using my points for anything anyway!” but consider the fact this is actually a great way for Sephora to get a tax write off. On the upside your points have no actual cash value which means Sephora is converting them into money which means a bigger tax write off for them at the end of the year.

I’ll tell you what would be great. If they actually allowed you to exchange your points for a donation and they matched your donation. If I use 500 points to do a $10 donation how about they match that $10 bucks making it $20 that goes to the National Black Justice Coalition? I’d be here for that.

This just feels a little phoned in. When it comes to Sephora sometimes it feels like they will never make any of us happy with the way they do things. But right now, during trying times, they need to do better than this.

What do you think?

Is offering a donation for reward points a good way to go?

Suave Hand Sanitizer Is Here and More Are Coming

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Guess who has a hand sanitizer? Suave! Yup, Suave Hand Sanitizer has hit the market. It’s now available at Target. And this my friends is how you can tell your grand kids someday how the evolution of hand sanitizer started. Because you know that if Suave is doing it we’re going to see everyone and their mama introducing their own formulas soon! I’m sure it’ll be all Baskin Robbins 100 flavor choices up in here soon.

You know there’s some irony in the fact I stock pile Bath and Body Works Hand Soaps like the zombie plague is about to hit. When this started 100 days ago, I felt such comfort that I had rows and rows of Bath and Body Works Hand Soap in my beauty closet. But I quickly realized I did not stock pile hand sanitizer as much as I did regular old hand soap. I mean, every season, every holiday, ever bloody limited edition hand soap ended up in my cart and in my beauty closet. I had enough to share with my entire neighborhood. But for some reason my massive stash was lacking in the hand sanitizer department. I had several laying around in my desk drawer, some in my purse, and a few bottles scattered around but not nearly enough to provide any comfort when I thought for sure the world was ending. Thankfully enough, Bath and Body Works has started restocking and they appear to have lifted their limits on how many you can buy at one time!

Other brands have also started to introduce different sanitizers some of which come along with a donation to COVID-19 relief of some sort like the one Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Touch Hand Sanitizer Spray.

As we head into the brave new world I think hand sanitizer will definitely be the accessory of choice to have on you. Suave just made me realize that we’ll see EVERYONE coming out with some formula or another as stores start re-opening. This is formulated with 65% Ethyl Alcohol but do your research prior to buying as not all hand sanitizers treat all germs. And don’t forget hand sanitizer takes about 30 seconds to actually work so no touching your face after application.

Do you think a wave of different hand sanitizers are about to hit the market?

Today I Listen, I Learn, I Commit To Doing Better

I think one of the biggest things that has come out of the Black Lives Matter movement is it taught me to listen more. I think in listening you can learn a lot more. There’s nothing wrong with just being silence for a few minutes to absorb what you are hearing around you. There’s a lot of information floating around for us to educate ourselves with. There’s so many ways we can listen, learn, and commit ourselves to being better humans. We’re still going to make mistakes because I haven’t yet met a perfect person in the universe but by learning more we’ll make less mistakes that might potentially hurt others.

I’m really reaching here this week to get back into beauty. I find it a little hard to talk about makeup when so many things are wrong with the world right now but I’m doing my best because I really am committed to reaching out to all of you. I’ll readily admit writing this blog also gives me piece of mind, some sanity, and comfort. I’ve been doing this over ten years and many of you have been here for the entire journey. Some days I wonder how long I can continue but as soon as my fingers hit the keyboard those thoughts disappear and I’m enchanted again about getting the word of beauty to you.

This week, I decided to learn more about black owned beauty brands. I’ve featured brands like Fenty, Shea Moisture, Carol’s Daughter, Juvia’s Place, Uoma, Beauty Bakerie, and others in the past but I want to dig deeper and educate myself more to support these brands. I’ll be reviewing products in future posts that I hope you’ll enjoy seeing from brands you may have never even heard about.

As someone who’s always been heavily involved with Japanese, Korean, and beauty abroad makeup and beauty trends and products it only seems logical to extend my niche further and start becoming more involved with smaller owned businesses (and larger ones) that promote, align with, and support BLM.

My question to you is which black owned beauty brands do you already use, support, and love?

I’d love to hear all about them!

Do share!

L’Oreal True Match Eye Cream In A Concealer Promises to Conceal and Treat

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

L’Oreal True Match Eye Cream In A Concealer is a new concealer slash eye cream that’s launching for Summer 2020 shortly. This new hybrid formula acts to conceal pesky dark circles as it treats the delicate eye area providing moisture and acting to retain that moisture thanks to a formula that contains 0.5% pure hyaluronic acid.

The is an intriguing formula that’s completely ruined b the ingredients it includes but as a concealer (and an eye cream) junkie it’s my responsibility to try it for you.

So, what do we have here. We have a concealer that promises to act as an eye cream as well. Here’s the deal though….when you’re combining an eye cream and a concealer together you’re basically creating a tinted moisture. In my experience, any product that promises too many things only ever excels at one thing or worst case scenario, it doesn’t excel at any. If this new formula plans to act like an eye cream I can almost guarantee it won’t be pigmented. Hydrating concealers tend to sheer out quite a bit when applied. But there is a chance L’Oreal may be on to something here however, they completely ruin it with the addition of alcohol in the formula.

Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Caprylyl Methicone, Propanediol, Dimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, Dimethicone/Peg-10/15 Crosspolymer, Alcohol Denat., Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Chloride, Triethoxysilylethyl Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Phenoxyethanol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Caprylyl Glycol, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Alumina, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Citrate, Tocopherol, [+/- May Contain/Peut Contenir, CI 77891/Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499/Iron Oxides, CI 77163 / Bismuth Oxychloride, Mica, ] Fil Code C248797/2.

Ok, let’s take a look. Water, good. Oooo lots of cones. Not a great thing but not an awful thing. Caprylyl Methicone is a good one as it’ll make application smooth and easy. Propanediol not a cone but equally a good for hydrating the delicate skin around the eyes. Dimethicone also provides more of a slippery texture. All these cones are making me wonder if the texture will feel more like a traditional silicone facial primer versus an eye cream. I’m saddened to say Sodium Hyaluronate the 9 ingredient on the list which does make me wonder how well it will actually help to draw moisture in but that actually isn’t my main concern here. My concern stems from the fact they went and threw in alcohol before Sodium Hyaluronate. Anything good here is ruined by the addition of alcohol. You might draw comfort from the fact it’s the 8th ingredient here but it’s still here none the less.

I’ll likely ignore the alcohol and dry this regardless but I have a feeling it’s a formula that won’t make my hit list.

We’ll see though! L’Oreal has surprised me in the past.

L’Oreal True Match Eye Cream In A Concealer is $14.99 and launches soon.

What do you think of this formula?
